I wasn't expecting much when we made a trip to ruins - I went along because it is the only thing to do in Copan, and therefore somewhat obligatory. However I can say it was a truly enjoyable experience and far more interesting than I originally thought it would be. I think this was mainly due to the tour guide... More

Simultaneously receive a great impression of the majestic Mayan ruins and the beauty of the view and nature.

We walked to the ruins from our hostel. We stayed at the Blue Iguana and it was about a 15min walk. Once you leave the village stay on the left hand side and you will see a footpath past the CoOp which makes for safer walking. Traders peddle their wares but there is no pressure to buy which we found... More

I live in Guatemala and I've seen my share of Mayan ruins but I always return to Copan. Is it the size or the site itself? I'm still not clear on which appeals to me the most, but the added pleasure of the on-site and superb museum, plus the very experienced guides available(i suggest a guide)always makes me walk away... We had a great tour guide who spent over 3 hours explaining both Ruins in detail. It was hot when we went, so bring lots of bottled water. We took the underground tour as well.

This is an excellent Maya site with the hieroglyphic stairs being the main attraction. Early morning you essentially have the place to yourself as well.

Right on the town square. Easy walking to everything in town including the ruins if you wanted. Hotel has nice rooms, hot water, great service.

I am happy that I did not miss Copan Ruins although I was in Tikal just a few days ago. If Tikal is to be amazed by the size (mostly that is it, although MUST SEE too!), Copan is to be charmed and astonished by sculpture. And even if you get a bit tired while walking and think that enough,... More

Our guide, Jorge, was excellent: very knowledgeable, informed, and able to teach to a large and varied group of children (3-15 years), young adults (18-20 years), and adults (40+ years). I would highly recommend spending the money to hire a guide. You are helping to support the local people, supporting those who are educated, and will have a much better... More

its very nice, quite, and specially almost empty early in the morning, but usd 15 might be a little too much for a place that can be walked in an hour or 2
