This is at atmospheric site. Although many of the original carvings are in the museum (comment later), replicas have been substituted without detriment. The site available to see is compact but the extent of the original remains to be determined. Scarlet macaws and agoutis accompany the visitor. Go early but we found that there were relatively few people despite the... More

The visit to the ruins made for a very full morning! We walked from Copan Ruinas out to the ruins with another couple. Upon arriving the four of us hired a guide. I don't think we'd have enjoyed or understood the ruins as well without having a guide. I think it's great that they've done so much to try to... More

The Ruins are beautiful and there is buckets of history that is worth learning about. Our guide was informative and very good at educating us about the Mayan culture that built the ruins. It was a shame to see that many of the most impressive exhibits were replicas, the originals had been moved to the museum which had an additional... More

Been to several Mayan ruins over the years and although this one is not the most spectacular, its well managed and kept and easy to get around and understand, although you will probably need a guide. It will probably take a few hours but not much longer.

Visited this site from our cruise ship out of Puerto Cortes, took the tour from the cruise ship excursion bit expensive but the coach ride was 4 1/2 hours drive each way so didn't have much option. Well worth the expense though, a scenic ride and a great included lunch at a local hotel close to the site put us... More

Copan Ruinas was one of the highlights of our trip. What makes this place so unique is that there where only a few visitors and therefore you could kind of "sense the spirit" of this place. Not as big as other mayan places but absolutely worth a visit !

A short and safe 1 KM walk, or a quick tuk-tuk ride, from center of town is a large Mayan temples ruins park. Actively being dug and preserved it offers tours above ground, in the tunnels (which I have not done ) and a museum. Very interesting and comparable to the other large Mayan sites. A definite bonus was a... More

If you are in the area you cannot not come to these ruins. We had visited chichen itza, tulum and tikal archaeological sites before and we would not say it is a must do Mayan site however it certainly has its charms. We really liked that at the time of our visit (10AM) there were barely any tourists about and... More

We paid the extra price for an English speaking tour guide. I am so glad we did! His knowledge of the ruins and command of English helped us to thoroughly enjoy and appreciate what we were viewing. Since there was no one other than our family, it was a private tour that allowed us to ask many, many questions and... More

This has some great grounds to walk as well as the ruins them self to climb over. The South American version of Survivor was being filmed there while we toured. Much of the grounds are easily to walk around to include the sports field used for their version of what may be a version of soccer.
