My wife and I spent 5 nights on our own private island for 5 nights. It was everything that we hoped for including feeling remote and celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary. We rented the island from Barry Jackson and his family who have been on the Cays of Utila since its early settlement. We found this gem at http://www.utilacaysrentals.com/Home/Welcome.html. It... If you have a free day, hire a local fisherman to take you to Water Cay. Beautiful deserted island, crystal clear water, white sand beach (small strips). Take food and drinks with you More

Spent an afternoon on Watercay, its like your own island. If you head right from the boat drop off point, there is a small sandy patch on the point. Its great because everyone else goes left. You won't hear a sound except for the wildlife and occasional boat passing by. The area to the left is better for getting in... More

We contacted Captain Jake, a delightful seventy eight year old native with a great Irish accent, to take us to the outlying Key for a couple of hours snorkeling. He gladly took four people for $50US for the basically half day trip. The snorkeling at the Key is decent with the usual scenario for this part of the world: Some... More

Good place to visit. Main island is Cayan Cay which is fishermen´s village of around 600 souls, located on two small cays connected with the bridge. You can get good fish and that is about it. Other place to visit is Water Cay. It hosts nice sand beach and it is party place for Utila visitors that want to change... More

Excellent snorkeling, clean island, beautiful waters, almost deserted island (except during Sun Jam!). Great for picnics and day trips. We saw several Eagle Rays. Arrange for a local to take you! More

I've had the opportunity of staying on Jewel Caye and visiting Pigeon Caye while there (they're connected by a bridge). It's very small and very intimate. Almost all locals. There is no road traffic. The only way to get around the cayes is on foot or by boat, which is really kind of cool. I definitely suggest taking a water... More

visit pigeon cay to see how utilians used to live. most people on the cays still fish everyday and hunt for conch and lobster in season. in the weeks leading up to easter all the roofs are covered in huge sides of fish drying in the sun (dried fish is traditional good friday fare in honduras). life here is truly...
