I recently completed my Freediver certification with Freedive Utila and can't say enough about what a great experience it was. Instructor Chris Mckay was very thorough, professional and encouraging which reflected the whole Freedive Utila approach it seemed to me. From the moment I walked through their door I felt welcomed and encouraged by staff and current students alike. I... More

The course was a 3 day course starting in the afternoon. It starts out slow and almost put us to sleep, but it's designed that way to teach you how to breathe properly. We had a strong group and were able to exceed the first days limit of 12 meters. It felt great to be capable of doing something we... More

If you are looking for something a little different to experience on Útila this is the place. One of the only freedive shops in all of Central America, Freedive Útila has the knowledge and people to get you diving to your potential quickly. I, like most backpackers, was headed to Útila for scuba training. I ran across this shop after... More

By far one of the coolest things I've done. Awesome relaxed location, great facilities, great staff, teaching techniques are super smooth (cheers Chris) oh and Marie's baking is so good. Tex has created a great atmosphere...

Did my Apnea Total Advanced course here after doing my Beginner's on Koh Tao 18 months previously. Tex also teaches AIDA, but go for the Apnea Total course, its more informative. Great instruction from Tex & Chris, they helped me achieve an almost 4minute breath hold (another guy in my class did 4mins 30secs) and I dove down to 37m... More

The staff know what they are doing and provide a welcoming relaxed experience. Both Texas and Chris take their time and are willing to really let you figure out your personal rhythm. If you have ever considered trying to Freedive this the place to do it.

I've always been curious about Freediving, so after speaking with Tex via email, I decided to go for it. Best decision I've ever made! Yes, there was some apprehension and nerves before the first dives as I'd never done anything like it before, but Tex is amazing in the way he teaches everything in the classroom and in the water,... These guys are just great. They are very welcoming, relaxed and take good care of you - in the water and on land. I think Ive never spend more relaxed days than with them. If you are looking for a Freediving school with teachers who love their job, and do not fall into a routine after doing the same thing... More

If you want to get started with free diving, this is the place to be. Tex and Chris are really cool, and its a joy to be with them. I started my beginner there. They spend a lot of attention on each student and there are many questions they have to answer! But they do, and therefore its very easy... More

I went to Utila to scuba dive and fell in love with free diving instead. You gotta try it! I enrolled in the beginner course when my curiosity was piqued after passing the Apnea Total sign every day for almost a month as I walked from my apartment to the scuba shop at which I was doing my dive master....
