We took a day trip to the lake, with a local driver and mini van that did not know the route, which was kind of fun as we saw a lot of sites, which we normally would not have seen. The trip took a little longer to get there, but after a great Guatemalan lunch in Panchajarel, we drove to... More

We booked a trip through the Antigua Tourist Information. the price to visit the lake and a private book trip for 2 was vey competitive at $100 pp. This included a private mini bus to and from Antigua and an private English speaking guide throughout. We stopped at Panajachel for the first stop and then went across the lake to... More

Lake Atitlan is beautiful and you can spend weeks and weeks visiting all the lakeside villages, do hikes, watch the sunrise from the Indian's nose, go to the markets, etc. I stayed in San Pedro which is cheap and quiet, but there are many places to choose from. I wish I had done the paragliding tour, which seems totally awesome.... More

If you are coming to Guatemala this place is on the list as a must visit. The lake is stunning especially early in the morning when the water is flat calm, in the afternoon the wind causes the lake to get quite choppy. Lots of the villages around the lake are worth a look to, some nice local art work... More

Lake Atitlan is stunningly beautiful, especially with its surrounding volcanoes. The lake villages I visited--San Juan La Laguna, San Pedro La Laguna, Panajachel and Santiago Atitlan--are dreadful combinations of filth and agressive vendors of seemingly unending tourist junk, mixed with just a little good stuff. If you go here, do your homework, which I didn't, and find some way to... More

How can I start? This is my sixth trip to Atitlan and I enjoy it every time. It's such a beautiful place, I completely disconnect from the rest of the world to take in the beauty of the lake and the volcano. I also enjoy people-watching, specially the Guatemalan people with their colorful clothes, and browse the interesting handicrafts at... More

We had so much fun with Lee. He picked us up early for the tour and brought us to his house for breakfast. That was only the beginning of his hospitality. We did a 1-day tour and loved his insight and respect of the area. It was a highlight of our trip. More

Definately book a hostel or hotel that offers a pickup from the airport, no stress and the drivers are always cheerful. Most Hostels are more like a bed and breakfast around Guate. tourism has skyrocketted in the entire region over the last 10 years, so you have many optioins. I went to Guatemala for 10days, and I was one of... More

Lee was an amazing guide and a pleasure to spend the day with. He was extremely knowledgeable about the Mayan culture and was completely open to questions, and taking the necessary time to make everyone's experience very enjoyable. My wife and I highly recommend Lee as a guide and will be returning at some point this year in which we... More

I visited Atitlan lake during one week. Actually this place is more than just a lake. It is sorrounded by 12 mayan villages and three stunning volcanoes. I recommend to get to Panajachel (but not to stay here too long, it is the must turistic place but not the better). If you want to chill and have the best view... More
