This is a must see when going to Guatemala. Only a 2 hr drive from Antigua. Beautiful way to see the country in all of it's green lush glory. It is definitely a touristy town for international travelers and the bar scene is a bit overwhelming in the evening. Lots of drinking and partying. You can stay away from it... More

This is the most beautiful Lake I have ever seen and there is something special about it (I hesitate to say mystical but many would use that word im sure). Early morning is my favorite, with the mist rolling across the flat water and the volcanoes watching over the lake. Words cant do it justice - you have to visit... More

My girlfriend and I explored the cities along the lake by taking public boats, which cost us in total 90Q each, a lot cheaper than the guided tours on a private boat. In further, you can stay in the cities as long as you want. We started around 9am from Panajachel and went to Santiago, San Pedro and finally San... More

Driving to the lake from Antigua - through the clouds and drizzle - we were apprehensive that the weather would prevent us from seeing the lake... BUT the day turned out beautifully. The lake itself is stunningly beautiful. The wildlife around the lake is fascinating. We hired a boat and visited three villages around the lake - a glimpse of... More

Amazing views over the lake, and a brilliant market close by. The local village was thriving, and I bought some outrageous jewellery, made from all sorts of natural material, that I shall never wear. I missed the outing to hike the mound, due to a risky burger the previous day, but I was informed that it was amazing.

You can expect exceptional views when approaching the lake from Solala. There are two stops. The first with some booths selling typical products. A second one without tourists nearer to the lake

Go to Guatemala and visit this lake- it is more than worth it. I was staying with a friend who has a house on the coast of the lake, which made me lucky enough to go around in our own little speedboat to explore. Surrounded by vulcanoes and little villages, this place has a real serenity to it that makes... More

Surrounded by 7 volcanoes, 3 large ones, Lake Atitlan is actually a caldera. The water is smooth and the views are fantastic, especially if you are staying at Hotel Atitlan. There is ziplining nearby too. And a butterfly garden. If you are in Guatemala, don't miss Lake Atitlan!

Lake Atitlan is incredible. My favorite place in guatemala. I stayed in Santa Cruz and San Marcos and loved both. There are so many things to do around the lake as well. It's a great place to have a combination of things to do and just chillin on the lake.

From Guatemala City by shuttle the lake can be reached in 2.5 hours. From Antigua about 1.5 hours. You arrive at Pana which is for most the gateway to the villages around the Lake. Getting around the lake is by boat, we have driven it, takes 2 days. Sunsets reflect the color or the sky's, the clouds, from stark grey... More
