Visiting Ixcacao Maya Belizean Chocolates was certainly a highlight of our trip to Placencia, Belize. Located in San Felipe Village, Punta Gorda, Belize, it is an approximately 2 1/2 hour trip from Placencia Village. When we arrived, we were taken upstairs to a beautiful, rustic open air room with dining tables and chairs and were served hot chocolate - like... More

A very unique tour.... very personable and interactive. The kids loved making their own chocolate. Lunch was provided and it was great!!! There is nothing like a home cooked meal. It was amazing to see rudimentary process that yields great chocolate.

I really do not have enough time to write all of the wonderful things I could say about our visit to Ixcacao. This was truly a highlight of our trip to Belize and I recommend you take the time to visit Juan at his family farm in Punta Gorda. Juan is an excellent host and educator about chocolate making and... More

Didn't expect to be so well informed. It was money well spent. Lunch was outstanding and saw a side of Belize that isn't touristy.

This place is outstanding. We drove several hours to take this tour and it was well worth it. We started by sampling a fruit from the cacao tree. It is a slimy sour tasting fruit with a nut inside. Next we were brought a pan of nuts that had been roasted and needed shelling. After shelling the nuts, we ground... More

I have now been to Ixcacao four times and it only gets better each time I go. Juan and Abelina Cho are absolutely brilliant people who use cacao to not only teach you about the chocolate-making process, but also about Mayan culture, the miracles found in the rainforest, and a more sustainable way of life. Juan takes great care in... More

It was a quick 2 hours stay at the Ixacacao Mayan chocolate but it was certainly worth it. I came after a group of young teenagers so I had Henry (the proprietor's son) as my personal guide. He showed me the cacao bean and how to make chocolate the traditional way. He also took me on a tour of the... More

It took a bit of a drive and a bumpy road to find but, the tour and meal at Ixcacao were worth it. We were warmly welcomed by Henry, the owners son, and taken to the open air area above the chocolate making area. We started by sampling real Mayan hot chocolate. We added our own sugar and ground chili... More

The chocolate was the best I have ever tasted in my whole life. For years, I have wondered how and from where organic chocolate comes. Now I know! The lunch was gourmet. Friendly staff welcomed us to their home and work. Thank you! We recommend Ixcacao without reservation!

I took a tour with Taste Belize (Kyra was my guide) and got to see an participate in the process of taking a cacao seed and turning it into chocolate. I was unfamiliar with the process but am all about chocolate. Might as well know how it's all made. I was picked up in Placencia and driven to Punta Gorda... More
