Canoe through the Maya Underworld. Barton Creek is a Maya sacred site and archeological treasure - complete with stalagtites, pottery artifacts and skulls from human sacrifices made 1,600 years ago. Site is difficult to access, on dirt roads. Do not attempt to visit caves on your own because there are many low hanging stalagtites and you will not know where... More

Well worth the trip...I still feel the cost is a little excessive...think they wanted $65-75US per person...try an negoitiate! More

An amazing experience! We enjoyed a belize home-cooked meal beforehand and met a Monkey named Mango who was very friendly and tried opening our water bottles! We got in canoes and explored the cave, breathtaking to see the wonder, and creepy to learn the history and see the skulls! Definitely something everyone should do More

Barton Creek Cave was really a fun cave to explore. I like the more adventurous activities, so ATM Cave was more my style, but this was still cool. You canoe into it and get to see some great stalactites and Mayan pottery. It's a little eerie which adds to the effect. More

Canoeing in the cave was an interesting thing. It's so quite and calm on the water. We had a good guide so were felt quite comfortable there with our children. The entrance is so pretty. More

The cathedral ceilings in the rocks took my breath away. It was so nice to quietly canoe through the cave and only hear water dripping. More

If you're going to go to Barton Creek, make sure you go with David, who has an office right across from the bus station in San Ignacio. He is VERY knowledgeable about this particular cave in addition to being a kind and honest person. In fact, he may be the most knowledgeable person in the area. We found his rates... More

Great fun canoeing a mile into an ancient Mayan cave. Well inside, our guide had us turn off our flashlights to experience this mysterious world -- the drip, drip of the water, the vast echo of surrounding silence, the grinning Mayan sacrificial skull when the lights came back on -- all made for a very unique experience.
