Don't get me wrong, it is a nice place, well cared. But just doesn't have anything special. We visited the Botanical Garden at the end of our canoe trip down Macal River (definitely recommended), a nice walk, saw a Slaty-tailed Trogon. But I probably won't plan a trip to there.

It was difficult to access the Gardens--signs in Belize leave a little to be desired-but we finally found our way, which was the same very bumpy, potholed route to go to DuPlooy's Jungle Lodge. I'd been told the dirt road was long and luckily, we made a good guess as to which way to turn at the end (right). We... More

Recently visited the Belize Botanic Gardens and to my surprise enjoyed my time spent there. Not having my own transportation might have been a problem except the Gardens do have passenger pick up at their local garden shop in San Ignacio. With a specific time for pick up I was on my way. Once you exit from the main highway,... More

The Botanical Garden is way out of town and it was an amazing ride to get there but it was well worth it. The grounds are huge and beautiful. I had a personal guide because I was the only one there. I learned so much about the garden, medicinal plants, orchids, palms, birds (saw my first Toucans there) and the... More

this was an interesting tour from the perspective of the medicinal qualities of jungle plants. Our guide, who grew up in a thatched hut in the jungle had lots of interesting information. However, if you are going to see the advertised 130+ varieties of orchids, you will be sorely disappointed. There were only 3 varieties in the orchid house and... More

Hello, I'm sorry that you were disappointed in your visit to BBG. We actually do have over 100 species of native orchids, but these are collected from the bush, and, as many of them are endangered and only collected for conservation purposes, they are not showy like hybrid and imported varieties are. Also, they only bloom once a year. We... More

You will be amazed at amount of trees, shrubs, and plants at the place. You can self tour or better yet, use a guide to really understand the role that all these plants play in the Belize natural world.

There were very few orchids but the young guide was very knowledgeable about all the trees, She took special care to show us plans for a future expansion.

Hi, I'm sorry that you were disappointed Belize Botanic Gardens. We are updating our website and will be more informative about the fact that our orchids are all native and collected for conservation purposes only so that is why there is not a showy display. These orchids only bloom once a year and not all at the same time. Thanks... More

We spent the day at DuPlooys and hired a guide, Kelly, to show us the garden. It's possible to tour the gardens without a guide but Kelly made the experience special. She spent several hours giving us an incredible tour of a lovely spot. We learned a lot about the native plants, Mayan medicines, and landscape design, and we throughly... More
