if you're interested in plants the botanic gardens had many interesting specimans. It's a hot walk, but there's lots to see.

Unfortunately we went there without a guide. It would have been several folds better with a knowledgeable guide as I am not a botanist or even an accomplished gardener. it has a booklet with decent explanation through a self-guided path. I did not see much wildlife or birds, but still the place is well maintained and gorgeous.
I spent several hours meandering by myself thru the exotic landscape that is the Botanical Gardens. It was well laid out with enough jungle walking for shade and sunny orchard hikes that kept me snapping photos. Afterwards I had a delicious lunch at DuPloys Lodge and a much deserved swim in the river.
Enjoyed every moment of it. went with a group for a course on learning to classify plants to the family level. Beautiful! and very diverse
Worth the US $15 admission fee to see native birds and animals in a natural Belize setting. Good signage. Certain animals may not be seen, if in the middle of the trees or foliage; others may be just a foot or so from you on the other side of the cage wire.
We were staying at Chaa Creek and walked over to the gardens, it's also easy to canoe over to the gardens from the lodge. Beautifully laid out gardens, and a fire tower to climb up for a great view.
When you stay at DuPlooys Jungle Lodge you can walk through this huge garden any time you wish. Things are well labled and there is a nice view point up the hill and river walk as well so many different ecosystems are seen and a Maya dwelling is in the middle.

Not too easy to get to if you do not have a car (4 wheel ). But the gardens are beautiful. They are manicured and contrast well with other experiences around San Ignatio.
