Owner description: Green Hills Butterfly Ranch is the place to go to enjoy Belize butterflies and learn about them in the process. Green Hills literally has thousands of live butterflies on display in a 4,000 square feet walk-in flight area. The guided tour in the butterfly flight area and the Blue Morpho Breeding Center takes about an hour. The facilities are surrounded by a botanical garden with more than 150 labeled plants, shrubs and trees. These gardens are home to dozens of hummingbirds, and the average visitor can easily see eight or even more species while visiting the Butterfly Ranch. Green Hills is worth a stop on your way to or from other popular destinations such as the Mountain Pine Ridge, Barton Creek, Caracol or the nearby villages of San Antonio and El Progresso. We open at 7 am and close at 4 pm. Late tours are welcome but only after reservation.

We stopped here for a visit it's also called the Trek stop very easy to find if you are heading back to San Ignacio after visiting Xunantunich it is on the main rd. We were welcomed and given an explanation of all the butterflies and the process they are going through to preserve. Very nice place to stop.

We have visited butterfly farms in several countries but Green Hills is the best we have seen so far. The curator and owner, Tineke, is a remarkable lady. She spends endless hours dedicating herself to this project. She spend have an hour with us going through the butterfly greenhouse and explains her work with great passion and love. She also... Took a bus from San Ignacio to San Antonio, then walked/hitchhiked the rest of the way. You get to spend about half an hour in the big butterfly room with the tour guide and it is amazing. Photos and small flash are allowed. Then the guide goes through the whole cycle from egg to fully formed pupa with actual forming... More

Beautiful surroundings. Toucans in the trees and a variety of birds in the grounds including lots of hummingbirds which zoom around your head. Butterflies are very beautiful and interesting. Definitely one not to miss

My wife and I loved our stop at Green Hills Butterfly Ranch. We were there less than an hour but loved having butterflies swirl around us and land all over! We learned about their habitat and the different species there and felt like we were re-learning our 6th grade biology as we were shown caterpillars in the different stages of... More

Good tour, beautiful butterflies, interesting to see how the butterflies are raised. I liked the young local woman (Sylvia), who gave our tour.

The butterfly house houses many different sizes and colors of insects. It is fun as well as very interesting. The sun came out and the butterflies were very active. They were landing all over us. A few tarantulas live in the house as well. We were taken through the whole life cycle of butterflies. But that wasn't all...There were two... More

Worth to visit when you are nearby. In addition to the beautiful butterflies you can watch closely the feeding hummingbirds. The ranch also have a little park with amazing plant and flowers. And you have a chance to look at the stages of the butterfly lifecycle.
