I LOVED Caracol and thought it was completely worth the 2.5 hour CRAZY bumpy ride from San Ignacio. We had just returned from two days at Tikal, Guatamala, which was amazingly huge. For some reason, we just had so much more fun at Caracol. The views were amazing and the howler monkeys were going nuts in the distance. The museum... More

Caracol is the largest Mayan site in Belize. Located deep in the Chiquibul Forest, this ancient city that rivaled Tikal has been under restoration for over 20 years. You will drive through the Mountain Pine Ridge so you can stop on the way home for a swim at the Rio On Pools or at the Guacamillo Bridge. More

Fifty miles south of Mystic River Lodge in the Pine Ridge Mountains of Cayo lies the spectacular ancient Mayan City, Caracol. Known as the largest ruin in Belize, it was the supreme Mayan city in its day. This fabulous site is worthy of a half-day visit with fellow travelers and a tour guide -- a must, and the rugged road... More

It is a beautiful place and it makes you feel like you can almost relive the past that the Maya people experienced. It took my breath away. We had a fantastic guide tha knows his history. His name wa Freddy and he is a guide from Hidden Valley Inn. it is a must for everybodies bucket list. Unforgetable!!! More

No-one should visit Belize without seeing Caracol! there areover 30,000 buildings within the city but only a tiny fraction have been excavated - one of these remains the talles building in Belize Millenia after it was built and offers amazing views over the jungle right across to Guatemala. We went at the end of July and were the only visitors... More

Together with my partner we drove to Caracol with our rental truck. It was a hard and long drive (3 hours including the part where you go with military convoy) due to the poor road conditions. While driving to Caracol we were surrounded by beautiful scenary. If you have a truck or 4x4 it is definitely worth it to drive... More

We wanted to drive to Caracol on our own so that we could stop along the way and take our time. Big mistake. First of all, the roads are not well marked or maintained, so even in our 4 wheel SUV, the trip was bumpy. Secondly, the area is rumored to be unsafe. Supposedly, a group of Guatemalans have been... We spent a week in San Ignacio and took day trips to several Mayan sites in the region, and one of our favorites was going out to Caracol. It definitely takes a full day to see the site, and there are many many tour companies in San Ignacio that will offer to take you up. We used a small company... More

Caracol was the first of three Mayan sites we visited and will remain with me as my favourite. Firstly our guide was incredible, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. Secondly the drive to the site though the most amazing changing scenery from beetle infected pine forest to lush virgin rainforest was great adventure and finally the site it’s self is amazing. Few... More

I went to Caracol today and I thought it was great. It's not as tall as Chichen Itza but it felt like was. Unlike Chichen, we were able to climb the main temple called Canaa. Climbing it helped me to guage and appreciate the size of it. It's really amazing how they were able to build such a huge structure.... More
