Owner description: The Belize Zoo is an institution that cares for over 150 native wildlife, and promotes Conservation, Education, Recreation, and Research. It is also the first nature destination in Belize that is accessible to visitors with physical disabilities. We are committed to the conservation of Belize's wildlife and its habitats through the establishment of a well maintained zoological facility and education center, both poised to bring about a greater environmental awareness to the people living in Belize, and to visitors from abroad. TBZ believes that by bringing the people closer to the animals, which are their natural heritage, they will feel proud of these special resources, and wish to protect them for future generations. All Zoo "residents" were once pets; donated to the Zoo; rescues found injured, abandoned or orphaned and brought in rehabilitation; or born at the Zoo. The Belize Zoo receives no financial support from the Government of Belize, and generates funding to care for its residents through admission fees, tours, donations, and adoption and membership programs.

Beautiful little zoo with many unique animals from tapirs, to black panthers to howler monkeys. It was a fun place to see. We went there for few hours from San Ignacio, we took a bus in town. Going to the Zoo the bus broke down so we were out an hour and a half or so, but going back to... More

This was our first stop after arriving at the airport and before we went to our hotel. We enjoyed seeing all of the local wildlife, but the ocelot was our favorite.

Don't hesitate to make the trip out to visit the Belize Zoo. Its well laid out, with (mostly) level, paved paths. A few steps to climb for some viewing platforms. A great variety of animals, many Westerners wouldn't normally see.

The Belize Zoo is a nice little foundation zoo with animals native to the area. The animals, most convenient to view, appeared to be in excellent condition. Keepers and maintenance personnel were in attendance. Our guide was knowledgeable of both the animals and why they were there (many, if not most, were rescues). Observvations points were well set up for... More

I don't like seeing animals in cages but this zoo offers a large area for the animals, many who are rescued. Easy to walk through, well arranged. Beautiful animals, my favourites being the toucan, harpy eagle, puma, tapirs and Jaguars.

Nice zoo. Animals are close and easily viewed, while still being surrounded by their natural habitat. If you like zoos at all, this is a great one to visit.

It was a great experience so see animals from the country. I liked that it was in their natural habitat. We were very lucky that most of the animals came out so we could see them, including the jaguar and the puma.

A beautifully laid out, well thought out animal sanctuary. All the creatures are indigenous to the area, and have been rescued from a variety of disasters. All the staff are helpful and knowledgeable about their charges, and the signs throughout the zoo are written with children in mind. We drove from Belize City, en route to Guatemala, and spent a... This really represented local animals and the workers are very knowledgeable and accessible. Being able to be in a pen with a jaguar overhead on your. Cafe and you are feeding it is a lifetime adventure. There was a extra $50 U.S. for this, but we figured it to be a donation. The animals are in as natural of a... More
