The Belize Zoo is an institution that cares for over 150 native wildlife, and promotes Conservation, Education, Recreation, and Research. It is also the first nature destination in Belize that is accessible to visitors with physical disabilities.

We are committed to the conservation of Belize's wildlife and its habitats through the establishment of a well maintained zoological facility and education center, both poised to bring about a greater environmental awareness to the people living in Belize, and to visitors from abroad.

TBZ believes that by bringing the people closer to the animals, which are their natural heritage, they will feel proud of these special resources, and wish to protect them for future generations.

All Zoo "residents" were once pets; donated to the Zoo; rescues found injured, abandoned or orphaned and brought in rehabilitation; or born at the Zoo.

The Belize Zoo receives no financial support from the Government of Belize, and generates funding to care for its residents through admission fees, tours, donations, and adoption and membership programs.

We enjoyed going through the zoo in January. We did a self-guided tour and spent about an hour here. The monkeys were our favorite to watch play around.

On a cloudy, coolish day, all the animals were active and easily seen. Got some wonderful pictures. Definitely worth the visit.

Very educational and well designed and maintained facility. A must see for any animal lover. Jaguar was my favorite, but I'm a cat lover. Had never seen a tapir before, very much like a wild hog of North America.

This was our first stop after flying into BZE and renting a car. Easily accessible, and highly recommended for those passing through. As biologists, we greatly appreciated that all animals were rescued or part of a captive breeding program (not taken from the wild). The grounds at the zoo were also great for spotting other birds and wildlife that were... More

you need to leave any high expectations behind when you enter this zoo. This is a great education exercise for local school children as well as tourists. A lot of the animals I believe are predominately rescue cases. Some of the enclosures for the birds seemed small by UK zoo standards - but overall it was a way to spend... More

This zoo is great for families - walking paths and getting around are very friendly. The animals are natives to the country. It isn't real big as in the states but was a nice place to visit.

Getting to see animals in a relatively spacious natural habitat was a real treat, and we enjoyed it immensely. It is awe inspiring to see jaguars and mountain lions up close. I also felt a little better in that the animals are rescues, and they seemingly are treated relatively well. There were a lot of unique species to see, and... More

Made a day trip to the zoo with the kids. Had an ok time but the zoo keepers were inexperienced and not real informative. There were plenty of cool birds and animals. Worth going to if you're close by but a day trip is a waste. You have to pay close attention to your little ones as it is easy... More

Our guide from Howler Monkey Lodge provided a personalized tour of the Belize Zoo where we found animals in natural settings. Most of the animals had been at some time somewhat tamed and so could not live in the wild. The zoo uses them for education and tourism. The zoo was clean, the people polite as well as educated about... More

The zoo was worth seeing. But I wouldn't do it again. The trip to and from was a disaster. The bus broke down, so we had to eat our lunch on the bus. Also a lot of waiting for the bus and hurrying to get the tour done. The tour guides were very nice and made it more tolerable. But... More
