Description: The Belize Zoo is an institution that cares for over 150 native wildlife...
The Belize Zoo is an institution that cares for over 150 native wildlife, and promotes Conservation, Education, Recreation, and Research. It is also the first nature destination in Belize that is accessible to visitors with physical disabilities. We are committed to the conservation of Belize's wildlife and its habitats through the establishment of a well maintained zoological facility and education center, both poised to bring about a greater environmental awareness to the people living in Belize, and to visitors from abroad. TBZ believes that by bringing the people closer to the animals, which are their natural heritage, they will feel proud of these special resources, and wish to protect them for future generations. All Zoo "residents" were once pets; donated to the Zoo; rescues found injured, abandoned or orphaned and brought in rehabilitation; or born at the Zoo. The Belize Zoo receives no financial support from the Government of Belize, and generates funding to care for its residents through admission fees, tours, donations, and adoption and membership programs.

It is a small zoo, to level-set expectations, but it has a really good variety of local animals. it almost feels like walking through the jungle - there are no tall walls or moats keeping you from the animals. We were so close to some of the big cats, that even the kids spoke in hushed tones. Great little cafe... More

Very nice Zoo - bigger then we expected. a few cages seem a bit small, but you do get to see the animal close up. The zoo is well set up and maintained

It is a small zoo but well kept, interesting animals. Walking around is nice and lots of shade to keep you confortable. The food at the restaurant is goog, it was our first local meal and we enjoyed it. Don't forget the bug spray!

Though it is very small with very little resources, I would highly recommend going that. The animals are kept in wonderful conditions. This is you real opportunity to see all the beautiful wildlife of Belize. Do not miss the Tapirs, spider monkeys, Jaguars, Tucans and many other animals. We were visiting during the day and we manged to see all... More

This zoo is a wonderful place to visit...especially with kids! Its a rescue and preservation zoo! It was so neat to walk around the zoo and read all of the amazing stories of the animals. It only takes about an hour to walk through and surprisingly the food is wonderful at the restaurant! I had the best rice and beans... More

Quiet, shady, well kept little zoo. Bring some bug spray along and enjoy a relaxing stroll through the shady paths. The shade is a big big plus in a tropical climate! If you want to get up close and personal to animals native to the area and learn more about them, this is a must see in Belize. Most, if... More

This is a very well maintained, clean good sized zoo. It is in a lush, tropical setting. A large variety of indiginous animals. I would recommend going in the morning before it gets hot and crowded.

This is a smaller zoo but you are able to get very close to the animals. The animals are in their own natural habitat and your entrance fee ($10 Belizean) goes directly to help maintain the zoo. It has nice stone pathways, no sun hat needed, bug spray a must. You feel as if you are in the wild jungle... More

Belize was a tough place to visit unless you want to do water sports, drive to the zoo was about an hour from the port, we were rushed through the visit but it was interesting and nice to see new animals. Recommended for families!
