Owner description: The Belize Zoo is an institution that cares for over 150 native wildlife, and promotes Conservation, Education, Recreation, and Research. It is also the first nature destination in Belize that is accessible to visitors with physical disabilities. We are committed to the conservation of Belize's wildlife and its habitats through the establishment of a well maintained zoological facility and education center, both poised to bring about a greater environmental awareness to the people living in Belize, and to visitors from abroad. TBZ believes that by bringing the people closer to the animals, which are their natural heritage, they will feel proud of these special resources, and wish to protect them for future generations. All Zoo "residents" were once pets; donated to the Zoo; rescues found injured, abandoned or orphaned and brought in rehabilitation; or born at the Zoo. The Belize Zoo receives no financial support from the Government of Belize, and generates funding to care for its residents through admission fees, tours, donations, and adoption and membership programs.

It's been a few years but one of my best experiences was a hands on visit feeding Junior the Jaguar. I see his photo on their main page and it brought back amazing memories. I suggest it to anyone. Your in a cage in his cage completely safe. So beautiful and amazing. Due to the date frame I just picked... More

I love the fact that there are only local animals at the zoo. Cages are big and very close to the animals natural habitat. It's worth a visit.

Just perfect for Belize, run by courageous animal activists who have been in the country for decades and came up with the idea for the zoo to house animals that were left over from a wildlife documentary that was made many years ago. The whole zoo is accessible to handicapped persons, strollers, and is a great place to bring children.... More

Gorgeous animals! You can get up close and the animals seem almost as interested in checking out their visitors as we were in admiring them. One of the highlights of our trip!

We had so much fun at the zoo! All the people were so nice and helpful, and the animals were beautiful! They have central and south american leopards which are especially beautiful. All the animals have been rescued, and all the enclosures are appropriate sizes and the animal's natural habitats. A lot of fun and educational.

I was pleasantly surprised by the animal enclosures and informational displays - really well done! As others have noted, this is a wonderful sanctuary for animals that would not otherwise survive. All of the animals are rescues and none more remarkable than Lucky Boy the black jaguar who was saved from starvation. For about $5 US I had the most... More

I'm not in favour of zoos. I actually am quite opposed to them. The Belize Zoo is definitely an exception. The animals displayed no signs of stress, were able to 'hide' from public viewing if wanted, and displayed natural behaviours (which included a sneaky little jungle cat spraying his territory and me in projectile range).

We stopped here on our way back to the airport and really enjoyed ourselves. For a small additional fee to support the conservation efforts and the zoo, visitors can have encounters with the animals. This allows you to get a much better look at the animals (especially the cats who are typically hiding) as the staff members feed them.

I did not book a day tour instead the family decided for us to rent a car. So we got the rental for a Couple of days. We just drove there and enjoyed a family outing. Great zoo
