Description: The Belize Zoo is an institution that cares for over 150 native wildlife...
The Belize Zoo is an institution that cares for over 150 native wildlife, and promotes Conservation, Education, Recreation, and Research. It is also the first nature destination in Belize that is accessible to visitors with physical disabilities. We are committed to the conservation of Belize's wildlife and its habitats through the establishment of a well maintained zoological facility and education center, both poised to bring about a greater environmental awareness to the people living in Belize, and to visitors from abroad. TBZ believes that by bringing the people closer to the animals, which are their natural heritage, they will feel proud of these special resources, and wish to protect them for future generations. All Zoo "residents" were once pets; donated to the Zoo; rescues found injured, abandoned or orphaned and brought in rehabilitation; or born at the Zoo. The Belize Zoo receives no financial support from the Government of Belize, and generates funding to care for its residents through admission fees, tours, donations, and adoption and membership programs.

We are just back from 2 nights at the TEC adjacent to Belize Zoo. Our taxi driver from the airport dropped us in the new car park area and it took us a while in searing heat dragging heavy cases to find reception but once we found it Oscar appeared to check us in. We had originally booked one night... More

This zoo only has animals that are found naturally in Belize. That alone says a lot about their goal. The zoo is absolutely beautiful. Definitely worth a trip.

I can find very few positive things to say about the Belize Zoo. We arrived at the zoo following a 1 hour drive through a rather bleak countryside on an old school bus. We unloaded from the bus, used some awful public toilets in a small, non-air-conditioned building and entered the zoo. We entered the zoo - and were immediately... More

Wow! The most intimate Zoo experience with jungle animals in natural environment! We are impressed that these rescue animals aren't shy and seek out human contact, making for great interaction! Of course, Junior the Jaguar, licking my and my son, Tyler's foreheads was a highlight of the Belize zoo and my entire vacation. Wow!

This is a nice zoo. It just makes you feel good to see the animals and how well they are taken care of. We took the night tour and it was an awesome one-on-one experience. The guide discussed the animals we saw and answered all of our questions. My husband and I got to hold the boa and feed several... More

This zoo is unlike most I have seen. The enclosures are not cement pens but large open spaces that replicate the animals' natural habitat as closely as possible. There are animals there that could leave (like the monkeys) but choose to stay because they are well fed and well treated. All money spent there goes to support the animals and... More

Many of the residents of the Belize Zoo were confiscated from people who were not supposed to have them in the first place. Everyone looked happy with the exception of one of the big cats, whom I assume was a rescue. It was nice to see him anyway and I hope he adjusts. This is a very nice little walk... More

Travelled 45 minutes by taxi, $80 USD....spent an hour at the zoo. It was so hot that the animals were all hiding.

Seldom do we visit small zoos and come away with anything but pity for the animals. Belize zoo is totally different. All the animals there are either rescued or bred at the zoo and all are endemic to Belize. The enclosures are generous and all the animals we saw seemed content. We commented that there were similarities to the Jersey... More

The accommodation was excellent. I only planned to stay one night but ended up staying two. The staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. The zoo was a joy! Well done to staff and thank you for a memorable stay and visit.
