Are you going to Belize? Yes? Is this zoo on your itinerary? No? Well, it needs to be! The "little" part of the zoo is really misleading. It's not quite as little as it's made out to be. My sister and I spent a whopping 3.5 (might have been 4) hours in the zoo, checking out the animals, reading the... More

My wife and I were driving from Belize City to Placencia and passed a sign advertising this zoo on the side of the highway. We decided to pull over and give it a look, and I could not be happier that we did. The price is affordable and the entire experience feels like you are a part of the animals'... More

All the animals were out and about and really interacted with the patrons. The tapir even walked up to us when her name was called. Very cool.

I loved this zoo because it feels as if they built it for the animals, instead of for people. The fact that these are rescue animals, and what they do to give them a good life is amazing. Even though we were there during the day, they were quite active and it was such a great experience for our family.... More

I'm not generally a fan of zoos, though I do recognize that some (if not many) of them have admirable goals such as public education and breeding programs to help boost populations of endangered species. Even so, I don't typically go to zoos. We had seen many of the creatures at the zoo (Jaguar, Tamandua, Kinkajou and others) in the... More

A beautiful place and all the animals there are rescues. My group tour got to feed several of the animals including a Toucan, Tapir, and Macaw. I'm not sure if it was that way just for our group or if that is a common experience there. The tour guide was very knowledgable and friendly.

This worthy venture has helped save so many animals that were either injured or at risk of being killed. The stories of some of the animals are quite heart-wrenching. One big surprise, and not on the schedule of animals, was seeing a massive owl butterfly.

This is one of my favorite zoos. The Belizeans take a native animal, put it in a natural habitat and let you visit. There aren't huge fences and glass to keep you out, you really get to be immersed. The animals all look healthy and well taken care of.

For all the people that complain that the Belize Zoo isn't what they expected from a zoo, I say... Foo... It is better than a big city zoo in so many ways. For one, everything in the zoo is a native animal (zoos in the States don't do that because they haven't realized the value of educating people about what... More
