The Zoo is situated quite a distant from the main cities, so I would advise to have private transportation. Usuallu full local buses hardly stop at that place. It is a very small zoo but with many interesting animals, and still growing in size and variety of attractions. And the animals are acustom to visitors, always ready for a pic... More

There is so much to see in this zoo, but I was just fascinated by seeing a tapir for the first time ever. It looked like a cross between an elephant, cow and anteater and is extremely rare as they're eyesight is very poor so the wild ones (they are so gentle) get hit on the roads. There are big... More

We went to the Belize Zoo as a last minute attraction. We were amazed by how great it was. Every animal has been rescued from bad situations and cannot be released into the wild. The animals' enclosures are very close to their natural habitats and are relatively large. If you're looking for elephants or giraffes, you won't find them here.... More

I am not a person that enjoys going to Zoos because I really don't like seeing animals in cages. The Belize zoo is different. All the animals are in an environment that is very close to their natural habitat and they are all native to Belize. Many of them have been rescued from bad situations or even from the side... More

Been to many zoo's around the world. Very impressd with the Belize Zoo. They only have animals native to Belize, and have their enviorment as close as possible to their natural habitat. Small zoo but saw many animals I haven't seen before in zoo's i Africa and North America. A must see!

Nice zoo - most of the "displays" were natural and large, but a few were distressingly small. Very friendly guides.

I'm not even sure where to start. Located not far from Belize City and the Airport, the setting is all jungle with large cages and well laid out paths to all the see a large selection of animals many of which have been rescued from trappers and hunters. The displays are easy for everyone to read and understand and if... More

This zoo is small, but well landscaped with several rescued animals. The educational tour is great. I wish we had time to do the night tour, if the educational tour was any indication, it would be awesome!

My husband and I enjoyed visiting the Belize Zoo on our honeymoon. The zoo is small, but there is quite a bit to see. We particularly liked how organic and natural all the trails in the zoo were. We were particularly excited to see the Jaguar though it's caged area seemed a bit small. There were lots of unique animals... More

Summary: A very good experience, with a lot of animals that you would have a VERY difficult time experiencing this many of Belize's signature wildlife in the wild. The jaguar encounter, photo opportunity with Belize's national bird, the Keel Billed Toucan, and the Boa photo opp. are all money well spent. Animals: I did not know what to expect when... More
