This is one of my favorite zoos. The Belizeans take a native animal, put it in a natural habitat and let you visit. There aren't huge fences and glass to keep you out, you really get to be immersed. The animals all look healthy and well taken care of.

For all the people that complain that the Belize Zoo isn't what they expected from a zoo, I say... Foo... It is better than a big city zoo in so many ways. For one, everything in the zoo is a native animal (zoos in the States don't do that because they haven't realized the value of educating people about what... More

Dealing with the lady in charge of booking this tour was not the highlight! She was short in her email responses and it almost felt as if I was bothering her? In some emails she was sweet as pie and in others it felt uncomfortable. All that aside, the Nocturnal Tour was amazing! We arrived right when the sky got... More

The feeling of the zoo was was not bringing animals into a viewing habitat but rather you are being taken into theirs. it was nice to see playful and friendly animals that were well taken care of.

we took a tour of the zoo from our cruise ship. the zoo isnt a traditional zoo, it only has native belizian animals and none of the animals are taken from the wild. the animals are all basically rescues, either peoples "pets",injured, born at the zoo etc.. its fairly small but well worth the trip I wish we had had more time... Despite it's rather small size you can spend some time here as the exhibits give the animals a lot of space to rest and you might want to wait for them to come out. Go early in the morning (opens at 8:30) or in the afternoon to catch most of the action. Most of Belizean's wildlife is there, including the... More

We stopped at the Belize Zoo on a transition day, after spending several days in Placencia. It was right on the way back toward the airport and our next stop in Burrell Boom. You can see the whole zoo in about 2 hours. The big plus is the animals are all in natural jungle habitats. They basically carved a zoo... More

The zoo was really nice, all animals have a back story to it (how and why they were saved etc.) We saw tapirs, spider monkeys, howler monkeys, tucans, jaguars and more. Spend the 5 extra dollars to get an up close experience with the black tiger- it's worth it! You get to to go into a small cage within the... More

Travelled in August 2014 with the family of 5, 8, 10 yr olds and they loved the zoo. Walked the entire zoo in about 1.5 hrs, even sat and watched the monkeys and jaguar for a while. The café had good food to satisfy the kids. Well worth it.

A definite highlight of our trip to Belize. They have mostly rescued animals, and serve as a major wildlife education center for the people and children of Belize. Inhabitants include a magnificent black jaguar rescued from near starvation in an abandoned upscale tourist hotel, a blind tapir... the animals on view seem to understand that they have been helped, unlike...
