My husband and I stopped at the Belize Zoo on our way from the BZE airport out to the Cayo District, we usually aren't the 'zoo type' but I'm happy to report that we were not disappointed. We saw EVERY animal there! I loved the fun and charming hand painted signs, but the best part was that the animals seemed... more

Be warned - the zoo staff have a unstated policy of denying access to camera lenses that they consider too big! They have an issue with 70-200mm telephoto lenses and even for the use of a monopod with small lenses! There advise was to leave the "big" lense in the car!!! Walk away and spend your money elsewhere in Belize... more

The Belize Zoo is billed as "The Best Little Zoo in the World". It's a cute moniker, and one we wholeheartedly agree with. Chances are you've seen it in a nature or travel show. The Today show was there just a couple weeks before us. The Zoo only takes orphaned or rehabilitated animals, and they are all native to Belize.... more

If you are an animal lover, don't miss the Belize Zoo on the mainland. Get in touch with Sharon, the zoo director, and for a small donation to the zoo ($50US) we were able to get in a cage w/ Sharon and pet a jaguar (who was on the outside of the cage) and also had it lick our faces.... more

What a great little zoo! It's very intimate, very lush, feels like you're in the jungle! We got up close with the animals, the kids absolutely loved it (the guard had to chase us out at the end of the day!), especially the playful otters. This is a must-see! It's also guilt-free; these are mostly rescued or abandoned animals. They... more

A unique experience, the animals are seperated only by heavy chicken wire. After an hour long trip from Belize City, you are guided thru this haven for these rescued animals. One word of advise, BRING INSECT SPAY ! This area is in an isolated area and tends to have plenty of insects, so beware in advance. It's worth the trip... more

Recently my friend and I spent a week moving around Belize. As a day trip from the dilapadated Belize City, it was worth it. Most cab drivers or tour operators offer tour for $75-$100 per person roundtrip (entry and ride). However I am no fool- my friend and I walked to the local bus station and paid $3 Belizean ($1.50... more

This is a very nice little zoo. It's definitely worth a few hours stop not only for a chance to see native animals from very close range, but also because they've done such a nice job creating a restful, interesting environment. One word of advice: don't try bus travel to and from the zoo. The bus drivers don't stop for... more

I've traveled back and forth to Belize every year for 25 years and knew this zoo when it was nothing but cages. Now a tourist can see healthy animals, birds, etc. in the natural habitat invironments provided for them. Nice walkways, clear information about the animals, shaded areas, a gift & snack shop, covered picnic area, outdoor bathrooms are clean. Easy... more
