We visited the ruins with friends. Lovely boat ride on the New River where we spotted "holer" monkeys, several species of birds and even a crocodile. The Mayan ruins at Lamanai (Mayan for submereged crocodile) are lovely with three temples -- High, Mask and Jaguar. Tour guide was exceptional with an extensive knowledge of the area!! More

The Ruins are a work in progress, there are over 100 buildings in the complex, but about 5 or 6 have been excavated. The tallest one at Lamanai is 33 meters (100 feet), and you can still climb it.
