Sounds like an arboreal adventure, right? Read on, Traveler, read on! On our third day in Belize, we booked a junket to Lamanai, site of three excavated Mayan temples in the inland province of Orange Walk. This took some getting to from our base on Ambergris Cay. We took a four-seater flight via Tropic Air from San Pedro. After landing... More

We had a blast at lamanai! The ride there is long, but very interesting seeing all the villages and animals! The ruins were incredible! There are three temples, all of which you can climb. Don't be intimidated by the high temple! I was terrified climbing up thinking that coming down would be bad, but it wasn't at all! I did,... More

For a taste of Mayan Culture, this was and exciting speedboat trip up the "New River", but keep in mind that if you are on a cruise you could be stranded if you don't get back in time for you ship to leave port. If we hadn't booked with RCL our excursion ran way overtime due to equipment issue with... More

Carnival does not offer this excursion, and due to the length, we were slightly afraid of missing the last tender boat. However, all went perfectly according to plan and our guide got us back with time to spare. I'm so glad we took this excursion! Everyone was friendly and directed us where we needed to go once we arrived. It... More

We took around a 45 minute boat ride to get there; but the ride was great as well and we enjoyed the trip on the boat both ways! It's great to be able to climb the ruins and have a personal guide explain everything you'd ever want to know. We learned a lot about this location being the start of... More

This was great. We saw a crocodile on the river part of the tour, along with lots of birds. Really, everything went great and we had a fun time. The ruins were wonderful! We won't ever forget them.

This was not only a beautiful glimpse into the past of the Mayan people but also a great jungle river trip complete with manatees, crocodiles, monkeys and bats.

Natural history oozes out of every turn and the Mayan site is gloriously free of crowds. The river trip was full of birdlife, overhead in the air (jabiru) and on the banks (nestling bare-throated tiger heron) for the keen eyed. Our driver was brilliant at spotting things and stopping in double quick time. Wandering around the vast site, including the... More

Lovely boat ride to reach Lamanai (We did it with Reyes and Sons). Our excellent tour guide Eric made sure to point out birds, bats, a crocodile and tell us all about the river and its inhabitants. He then served up a great lunch before we visited the ruins. Lovely setting and you walk between the ruins under the shade... More

Ok so I should work out more. But even so, the long boat and car ride, hike through the jungle, and climb up incredibly steep (and tall!) Mayan ruins was totally worth it. This was such an amazing experience and one of my favorite trips in Belize. We got quite the surprise when a few howling monkeys came to the... More
