It's beautiful! Read about it before we went, and it's every bit as beautiful as we imagined. We walked around the lake and also hiked the Fall Loop Trial. There were a lot of bugs around the lake so it would be wise to bring some bug spray.

This is an enchantingly beautiful location. The pictures of it are always splendid and the valley in person is gorgeous. The short walk to Maroon Lake is a must. The longer hike to Crater Lake is almost as lovely. If you drive in before 9 a.m., you can pay the $10 per car and self-park. Else, you need to take... More

If you are visiting Aspen, this is a great hike to take while acclimating to the altitude. It's not at all taxing to hike to the Maroon Lake from which you can get a lovely view of the Maroon Bells. Hiking on to Crater lake is not difficult, but on my first day here I felt a touch of the... More

We went on all three of the hikes above the lake while we were there. Each one had breath-taking views. All were easy to moderate hikes. A bit rocky and a steady incline, but do-able even for us novices. Entire families with babies in packs were making the hike. In the evening, the breeze blows through the canyon and the... More

We drove to the Bells during peak tourist season and had a wonderful half day experience. The road is open prior to 9:00 and there were few people at Maroon Lake when we arrived. After 9:00 a shuttle bus must be taken. Maroon Lake, with the Bells at the far end, is gorgeous. On a windless day, the Bells and... More

We drove in at 5pm so we could park right at entrance and avoid taking the bus. Easy to walk a short distance to the lake view. If you are able to hike more you can take one of many trails from there for gorgeous views 360 degrees around you.

The Maroon Bells, as seen from Maroon Lake, are beautiful. But take the time to hike the 1.5 miles to Crater Lake for a look up the valley and to catch sight of Pyramid's peak on the walk in. Give yourself a few hours so you can hang out and Ohh and Ahh. Also, as of 2013, there's a Momma... More

I was happy to see that Maroon Bells has not been spoiled. It is the same as it was 20 years ago when I was last there.
