Just a short walk along the Rio Grande Trail and you turn off to visit this lovely monument and tribute to John Denver! The Roarinf Fork River is roaring behind you as you read the lyrics to "Rock Mountain High." It is peaceful and unpretentious . . . the perfect sanctuary where you can sit on a big boulder and... Having grown up with his music -- which resonated and inspired me -- and made me want to come to Aspen and the Rockies, I made it a point to visit the John Denver Sanctuary. It was a bit difficult to find, but when I did, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It was lovely to see the lyrics carved in stones.... More

It was a bit hard to find, not clearly marked. However, this out-of-towner managed to find it. It was a nice peaceful walk, really enjoyed the rocks with the song lytics.

This is a small but absolutely beautiful sanctuary in downtown Aspen. It provides some peace and solitude in a gorgeous setting. Song lyrics are engraved in some of the boulders and only add to the natural beauty of the area. Definitely worth a little time to get away from the crowds and enjoy what the sanctuary offers.

Beautiful peaceful sanctuary dedicated to John Denver's memory. Absolutely gorgeous flowers, streams and waterfalls, boulders and benches. Many boulders carved with words of John Denver's songs and other famous poets and scientists words. Very natural environment which was so beautiful to photograph, very serene and peaceful with large trees and such beautiful flowers, looked so natural, one of the most... More

Been to Aspen several times and never realized this sanctuary was so close to downtown. It is a close walk from the center of town and worth the trip. Very beautiful and great tribute to John Denver. Must place to visit and enjoy the beauty.

The Denver Sanctuary is both inspirational and relaxing. The lyric of John Denver songs are etched into rocks next to a gentle stream. It would be a mistake to leave Aspen without a visit to the sanctuary.
