Great day hike with a very chilly swim as the payoff.

One of my favorite hikes in the Aspen area. From my experience, its not very heavily trafficked. The icy mountain lake at the top was a sweet payoff for me and my dog. We... read more

This is one of the hardest hikes we have done so far but we would definitely do it again , and again, if and when we come back to Aspen. We did this hike on our last day which I/m glad as it would have been a bit hard coming from sea level to undertake on the first day we... More

A lovely trail but long with a lot of uphill. The trail ends at a lovely lake but make sure you check the weather before starting this trail. Poles might be needed for some, lots of water and sun protection needed. A really good workout, not for the lighthearted hiker.

I took a fall hike with my dog a few weeks ago, to Cathedral Lake. The trail head is easy to find when you take the Castle Creek road just past the mining town site of Ashcroft. There are a couple steeper switch backs near the end of the trail, but otherwise, the climb felt fairly gradual. The fall colors... More

Wow, what an amazing hike this is. You get a rushing river, waterfalls, amazing views, and a beautiful lake at the end. Trail reviews give this hike a medium rating, but for the average person that doesn't hike a lot I'd say it's more like medium-difficult. But worth it! Descriptions mention some difficult switchbacks but they actually weren't that bad.... More

This is a beautiful but steep climb up thru pines and aspens plus a lot of the upper part of the hike is over an old rock slide.

This is one of the most spectacular hikes in the Aspen area. Given the altitude - you start at nearly 10,000' - it is not for the faint of heart. Only Smuggler's is more challenging. The views on this hike are superior

It's gorgeous - there is no two ways about it. But, it's not easy. It's worth every step, ever huff and every puff. One of the best hikes in this valley!

Simply beautiful hiking and easy enough for the most novice hikers. You park in the Maroon Creek parking lot and keep to the right. You'll see signs pointing you in the correct direction. You'll walk along side the Maroon Lake and be delighted by all the incredible wildflowers this season. Plan on being gone for about 2 hours if you... More

I am a very novice hiker- I found Cathedral Lake trail challenging- and had to head down before I got to the lake! However my family ventured on and loved the whole trail!
