Riding up to the lighthouse on the trolley was great. Great views and little bits of history provided on the way up. Once at the lighthouse seeing everything and learning the history of the lighthouse was wonderful. The trolley runs Wed & Sat. I recommend going for the views alone. But the history about it was very nice too..

This lighthouse is on private property and hidden from view. So you either have to kayak, hike or pay for a seat on the scenic trolly to get there. We chose the trolly. What a delight! The drive itself on the windy 1-lane road alone was worth the price. You are on the northern tip of San Luis Bay, and... More

got to go to the port san luis lighthouse for the "jubilee" on father's day sunday. A scenic trolley ride out, a gourmet picnic lunch, live music, and a self guided lighthouse tour. What a great time. Plenty of knowledgeable docents to ask questions of. The jubilee is held once a month, check local listings for times and dates.

My sister and I rented kayak's from Avila Beach Paddlesports and made our way to the lighthouse. Beached the kayak's and went up the stairs to the lighthouse. Avila Beach Paddlesports made the reservations for the tour for us. It was so beautiful, scenic, & picturesque. Next time I want to do the hike in to the Lighthouse!

You board a trolley that takes you up a mountain road and back in time, to this lovely lighthouse dating to 1890. Docents provide great information, from the changes on the site over the years to the woman whose memories of childhood at the lighthouse aided those working to restore it. From the site, you have great views of Avila... More

This lighthouse has been in service since 1860 some. It was manned by the US Lighthouse Service until 1939 when it was manned by US Coast Guard personnel until it was made automatic and now has no "on site" tenders. You have to make reservations if you want to make sure you get on one of the trolleys that run... More

It was a rather warm day in Avila Beach so we were happy that it was a little cooler at the lighthouse. The ride up in the trolley and the tour were great. Such pride and work has been put into the restoration of this piece of history. It is a must see. We even saw some whales in the... More

I've been to this area lots of times over the years and never visited here. Getting here is part of the fun, either with the trolley, or a long hike, or from boat or kayak. The tour is short and very informative. The docents who give the tour are the same people who renovated the house and grounds, so they... More

Love this hotel and Avila Beach area. Fun, relaxing, Bob Jones Trail, close to other Central Coast beach towns & San Luis Obispo.

This was our (wife and I) first trip to a lighthouse. The docents were very knowledgeable and engaging, they answered all questions thoroughly, and gave an easy-to-understand, yet engaging history of the lighthouse and the surrounding areas, including the geology of the area, Native-American presence, original settlers, and early and current industry. In addition, the views from the lighthouse are... More
