The volunteer docents are extremely well-informed. The building is completely furnished in period furniture. We saw whales! I did not dislike them but be aware that there are some narrow steep stairs to climb if you want to go to the top of the lighthouse.

There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this adventure. If you are capable the walk out to the light house is moderately strenuous. You must arrange with the Docents in advance due to security reasons. There is a bus available for those not capable of the hike. If are in the area and have a chance please arrange for the... More

What a real surprise to find such a California treasure! The docents were so enthusiastic and knowledgable. The lights house was in impeccable condition, as was the road. It was most fun to ride the trolley up to the point, taking in the scenic views up the hill. We were fortunate that a group moved their reservation up so we... More

In taking two consecutive vacations to see the lighthouses which line California’s Pacific Coast, we missed this one as it was closed the day we were in the area, and it would have been a tragedy had we not come back for it. Located just north of Pismo Beach in the sleepy community of Avila, this lighthouse still has the... More

I found the tour of the lighthouse to be very informative. I have frequented the Avila Beach area since a young girl and it was so nice to know a little more about its history and to visit a new site. The ladies that volunteer were so friendly and informative and the bus driver sure knew how to handle that... More

Very informative and only 10 people per docent. Ride up via trolley was good too. Each lighthouse has its own color scheme.

We took the trolley ride to the lighthouse. The hike is pretty strenuous and I just had knee surgery. The driver was very knowledgeable and made the short trip interesting. A docent toured the lighthouse with our small group and was also very knowledgeable and interesting. Great care has gone into maintaining this lighthouse. There is also a gift shop... More

The lighthouse is very unique. The docents were very knowledgeable and friendly. The house has been restored with artifacts from the late 1800's. You have to take a trolly to get to the light house. Driving the drive the guide gave us a history of Avila and the piers. We were there just before Christmas and they had a blue... More
