This small museum is delightful. Our kids loved it and actually asked to visit the museum a second time. A lot of it had to do with the great friendly staff. We highly recommend this museum.

Make the time to visit the museum in the historical courthouse. It really helped us to understand the surrounding area and Hwy 49 much better.

This is the main Historical Museum for Placer County. It has an overview of the history from prehistoric fossils to the building of roads over the Sierras that pass through town. The museum is small, but has a number of interesting exhibits from the history of Placer County. My kids enjoyed playing with the old phones and checking out the exhibits.

The museum is located in the Placer County Courthouse which is an interesting building in itself. The museum has much to offer guests interested in the California Gold Rush Era. At the time I visited it was free with donations accepted. On Saturday mornings at 10 AM there is usually a free historical walk of Old Auburn.
