Someone deserves some credit for developing this museum into such an interesting and interactive local attraction. Our kids especially enjoyed calling each other on the "old style" phones. The exhibit about the printing press (including the printing press) from the origins of the town was also memorable.

My father's law office was across the street from this beautiful building. It was closed for many years and I had not visited my home town since 2003. I was pleasantly surprised to find that the museum was open on a Sunday, which was the day I was passing through. I would have liked to spend more time reading many... More

The museum is located in the old classic style courthouse next to Old Town Auburn, and it's worth a visit. It's gold strike history, and the displays are interesting and informative. A very good place to spend an hour or so when you're in the area, you'll learn a lot about local history.

Lots of real interesting displays covering the rich history of this area. Centrally located in old town Auburn. Plenty of parking (at least when I was there Labor Day weekend). A free experience that you won't regret.

The museum is in the ground floor of the Placer County Courthouse, which is a beautiful building in it's own right and is worth a visit. The museum has lots of information about Placer County history and has interactive things for the kids to do to help learn about its history. The Docent was super friendly and helpful and gave... If you are visiting Auburn, take 30 minutes to visit the museum in the historic courthouse. Fascinating artifacts represent key developments in local and state history. Exhibits are rotated periodically. As a lawyer, I stop in to look through the museum whenever I have a case at the old courthouse--which still operates as a courthouse on the 2nd 3rd and... More
