A great small town zoo

The zoo is a special place in Atascadero. Founded by the Atascadero Lake Park ranger in the 1960s, it grew from a backyard project of wounded animals and an alligator in a batch... read more

I took my grandkids to this zoo over the years. They all loved it. Specially the kids zoo. They fed the animals and just generally got loved back. (as they got loved) Grandkids are now taking my great-grandkids to the zoo. They also love it.

The zoo is a special place in Atascadero. Founded by the Atascadero Lake Park ranger in the 1960s, it grew from a backyard project of wounded animals and an alligator in a batch tub to a modern small zoo with a great variety of animals.

We very much enjoyed our visit to Charles Paddock Zoo. I have visited a number of zoos this year. Its one of the smaller (I went to a tiny tiny one in Palo Alto earlier this year). It has lots of fun animals to see for being such a small zoo. The tiger was making noises. The Jacob Sheep intrigued... More

Yes, it is a small zoo but well cared for. The stuff was all very kind and happy to answer questions. It was not crowded at all, so you could watch animals without feeling rushed. It does have a small gift shop with zoo related items. Nice place to spend 15-30 minutes and then you can move on to the... More

They have some unusual animals but The zoo is very small. The cost to get is priced right, but it is still nice to see the different animals.

We expected a small zoo but did not expect it to be so small. There was only 1 set of bathrooms for the entire place. The animals seemed well taken cared of. Loved the King Vultures & Malayan Tigers.

This is a small but very fun little zoo. It is within the park so take a picnic and enjoy the afternoon and visit the animals.

My child Stephan and I had the most wonder filled experience observing all of the creatures this zoo had to offer in their very true to life natural looking habitats. The animals all seemed well bred and the zoo keepers definitely did not incorporate any sexual behavior into the routine maintenance of these majestic creatures

The Atascadero Zoo is small, very small. It is a fun trip with small children, so that they can have an experience with some birds and animals that they would not otherwise encounter. For adults without children, it will be a quick trip and not too exciting. There is at this time a lot of upgrading and renovating going on!... More

We had to kill some time in Atascadero and went to the park, not realizing that there was a small zoo there. As 2 adults, we enjoyed seeing the variety of animals on display and 45 minutes passed very quickly. It is located in Atascadero Park where after the zoo, your kids can play on the playground or ball field... More
