The park has very nice trails that are easily accessible and well maintained. The redwoods in this area are amazing.

My daughter and I love walking thru this forest...so peaceful and beautiful. The forest is located next to HSU and close to downtown Arcata. Great photo ops and fairly extensive trails throughout. A definite must see if you're visiting the Arcata area and a nice hangout for the locals. The grassy picnic area near the trail head has tables and... More

This place blew us away...and within walking distance from the town square, immediately adjacent to the Humboldt State campus (and I mean immediate...as in step up on the curb from a campus road and you are in the park!) The Redwoods are pretty amazing in and of themselves. There is something majestic about their size and age...and the filtered sunlight... More

This park, only a few minutes from downtown, offers a high payout for the small ante of a few steps. A few paces into the forest and you're catapulted into a nest of sky high growth and dime dropping silence. Serenity occupies her time here. This park offers a healthy menu of swings, slides, picnic tables and pleasant people. A... More

There is always great light filtering through the Redwoods as you hike in the forest rain or shine. A great workout no mater what your pace.

Dense, redwood forest in an urban setting. But walking into the forest only 50 feet or so made you feel like you were in a wilderness area. LOTS of up and down, well-maintained trails. Plenty of parking.

I use to live in Arcata and go there all the time. It has about 15 miles of official trails. I really like the concept of this park. It's owned by the city. They way it's paid for is through eco logging. They even helicopter lift logs out to keep the damage down on the surrounding woods. Very cool idea.

Just up behind the Humboldt State University is the Community Forest packed with Redwoods. Take the time to stop and explore and you will be rewarded over and over again.

I live in Arcata and visit the Arcata Community Forest frequently. It is a great place to see the redwoods of northern California. Not as extensive or, perhaps as spectacular as the state, county and national redwoods parks in the region, the Arcata Communist Forest offers fairly short, easy, accessible walks among the redwoods right in the heart of Arcata....
