Black Diamond Mines is a nice regional park with a museum that highlights the mining activity that occurred there last century. The mine has a small visitor conter, but for the most part this is a wildlife preserve linked to a neclace of open parkland surrounding San Francisco Bay. It links into Mt. Diablo State Park and various county, federal and state parks and sites. When we visited we were totally alone except for cows and butterflies. More

This place is so big and so full of historical and outdoor fun. You can actually go into the mines to see what it was like for the miners. Bring warm clothes for the mines even if it's hot outside. More
