This little theatre has been around for some time. It has great performances at a reasonable price and you don't have to drive to SF for entertainment! Save on toll and parking!! It is fairly small but homely atmosphere therefore you can see pretty much where you sit. Sitting is first come first serve. I highly recommend this theatre for... More

A fun small theater with very good variety of plays each season. I buy season tickets for friends for Xmas presents very year and we make our trips into afternoon outings.

I think that the Altarena has been running continuously since the 1930s. Currently they do 5 productions/year. The program for the current season includes, Side Show, Almost, Maine, Patsy Cline, and Boeing Boeing. They have a coterie of core actors, but every production features new faces. We subscribe to seven or eight local theater groups, and are most pleased with... More

Amazing what this little theater can do in such a small space. I've been to many plays here and I'm always impressed and entertained.

This is a wonderful live theater in the heart of Alameda reachable by public transportation. The theater is small and intimate and best of all, you can see and hear everything happening on stage. The actors come from all over the San Francisco Bay Area and obviously love what they are doing.

A friend invited me to join her to see Rent. Altarena Playhouse is small and intimate. You feel like you are a part of the play. You are no more than 4 rows from the stage. It is in the round so you can see the reactions of others in the audience. It makes it even more enjoyable, because you... More

Its a small theater but charming and very reasonably priced. All the plays are well done many with live music. I've been a season ticket holder many years and can't wait for the next play. Cookies and coffee at intermission for donation can't be beat.

Fun local spot to see some live theater, walking distance from most of Alameda. Some off beat entertainment and some classic standbys.

This small local theater will be celebrating its 75th anniversary next year and produces several shows a year, some of which are quite good, others not so good. My review is mostly about the theater itself. This is theater in the round, the stage is not elevated. Seating is in tiered rows so most can see the performers very well... More
