First off, you have to understand what wilderness camp sites are like. You will hike your equipment in, including your water. At best, you'll get a pit toilet to share with another site. You'll pack everything back out, including your trash. Once everyone in your group understands this and is OK with it, you'll have a fabulous time! We stayed... More

Went camping for the first time with hubby and family dog a couple of weeks ago (June 22-25, 2015). We chose Newport State Park. Loved the place, especially the beautiful, fun and adventurous Michigan Lake shoreline . Very quiet and beautiful. A lot of backpacking to get to your tent site, but it was a very worthwhile experience. Cannot imagine... More

Trails are narrow, so come prepared with long pants. Bring bug spray too. Beautiful views of the Lake. There are areas of the shore with lots of rocks to kind of explore and rock jump.

A PERFECT place to go on a calm summer day. Follow Europe Bay Road into the park on the north end. You can laze around on the beach which had less than 10 people on it the day we were there. Or you can hike in a couple of different directions too. If you want to hike, go to the... More

Enjoyed the displays on logging and the town that sprang up there. A whole community was thriving, now vanished. Nice trails, grassy areas, beach, changing rooms

We traditionally hike the park when we go to Door County, and we usually climb all over the rocks along the lake. This year the Great Lake's water level was high because much of the lake froze and there was little evaporation. So the rocks were underwater. Given it was cold and windy and foggy, the waves were big, and... More

A beautiful day in the woods. We hiked the Newport Loop and it was nicely graded with beautiful views. You could get to the Lake Michigan shoreline by veering off a little. Not as crowded as Peninsula State Park. Quiet and pretty.

Have visited here twice now and is definitely my favorite state park on the door peninsula! The lynd trail is great with lake views and trails to the shoreline. This park is also much more quiet with less visitors than the other door state parks which makes it a nice get away from high tourist areas.

Newport State Park has several campsites that you hike to. There is an extensive trail system with several spots to look at the water. It's another great WI State Park in Door County.

There were four of us. Two were 14/12 year olds. The trail isn't rugged but plenty of bumpy/rocky/roots on path. The trail is great though. You will go over/under fallen trees. Take a side path to look at the waves crashing onto the shore in some spots. Lots of interesting little finds and some information boards along the way. We... More
