We did the 7 mile Europe Bay hike starting from Parking Lot 3. It's a beautiful trail, easy trail--but it is a LONG hike for someone like myself that isn't used to that kind of distance. I'd do the hike again BUT I'd be sure to bring something to eat (trail mix, perhaps) to keep my energy level up throughout.

Few days before, wife let me go camping. So me and my homies called and booked site 12 (only one available). We packed the whip with camping stuff we've been purchasing for 3 years (always planned a trip but never got schedules aligned). Easy drive up with nice views once you hit the peninsula. Parked at lot 1 and started... More

So, this park has backpack only sites. Depending on where you park, your walk to your site can be anywhere from 45 minutes to a maybe 90 minutes, so no site is too rugged to get to for beginning backpackers. We've camped there 1/2 dozen times and it's always incredibly quiet. This is NOT the place for noisy groups or... More

I like the mix of trails - some very easy walking and some more rugged. Very nice views of the lake. Some trails poorly marked and with so many people going off trail, it was hard to determine if some forks in the road were really trails. Parking was good, nice picnic area, clean restrooms. We visited on a weekday,... More

This is a very large, beautiful park for hiking. You could spend hours here and not see the whole thing. I think camping here would be great, other than the bathrooms. The bathrooms for the most part are porta-potties in a cement building. No flushing, and the smell is so awful I basically had to hold my breath until I... More

We visited this state park for the first time this month & loved the variety of hiking trails here. Quite & a lot less people then Peninsula State park (which is one of my favorites!). Some of the trails are open & wood planked. While others are just a small root, rock , and lots of brush to hike through.... More

We went with a large group to view the Perseids Meteror shower on Wednesday night, and to listen to the program and use the 8" telescope the UW Madison Graduate Students brought. There was a large crowd, plenty of seating, and a wonderful time. It is a wilderness park, so no electricity folks. Gorgeous trails, unbeleivable view of the water.

I liked this park more than the Peninsula State Park on the other side of Door County. A bit more remote, hiking was great with view of Lake Michigan. Our shore lunch was the highlight of this excursion.

First off, you have to understand what wilderness camp sites are like. You will hike your equipment in, including your water. At best, you'll get a pit toilet to share with another site. You'll pack everything back out, including your trash. Once everyone in your group understands this and is OK with it, you'll have a fabulous time! We stayed... More

Went camping for the first time with hubby and family dog a couple of weeks ago (June 22-25, 2015). We chose Newport State Park. Loved the place, especially the beautiful, fun and adventurous Michigan Lake shoreline . Very quiet and beautiful. A lot of backpacking to get to your tent site, but it was a very worthwhile experience. Cannot imagine... More
