I've lived in the DC area over 30 plus years and everyday I see something beautiful because it's always changing. It's exceptionally beautiful at night but I recommend seeing this beautiful city on a weekday night or Sunday night to escape the crowd while embracing it's beauty!

If you don't want to put up with the traffic or find a parking spot, walking is definitely a good option. Depending on where you want to start your journey, there are several Metro/subway stations you can get to first. Keep in mind that this not a walk in a small town. The distance between places can be more than... More

Washington DC is a very walkable city. It is possible to walk the 5.2 mile circle of the tidal basin in one day to see the major monuments honoring Presidents and civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. Well worth the time plus you see the most beautiful part of DC.

The DC Zoo is a family favorite. We go for the red pandas, the newborn baby panda, the zebras, and the big cats. During the winter holidays, the landscape is transformed into a wonderland of lights and lighted animal designs. Hot chocolate and hot snacks add to the visit. Add bracing weather and beautiful colored lights and you've got a... More

My dad, husband, and I had a wonderful time on the Capitol Hill tour. Dan was our guide and was very enthusiastic and entertaining. We enjoyed all aspects of the tour and appreciated that they gave the Capitol tickets afterwards if you had the desire to tour there. This was a great thing to do on a cold winter day... More

I've been to Washington a few years ago, and I walked around the monuments on the mall, I repeated it with a jog around this time, but it was still much much better (ok at sunrise it's pretty good to be alone in the Lincoln Memorial), to have the history of each memorial put into context. It was also done... More

I loved the tour I took of the National Mall. Our guide, Becca, was awesome. She was cheerful and had great energy that helped us all stay upbeat despite the fact that it was *cold*! She was very knowledgeable and I learned so much about the iconic buildings and monuments around the Mall and I particularly enjoyed the interesting tidbits... More

All the monuments are in close proximity so it's easy to walk around. Some of the best views in the city are by the reflection pool and the Lincoln Memorial. If you are looking for photo opportunities keep in mind that a lot of runners coming through that area. You can also walk to the Martin Luther King memorial and... More
