I am a Washingtonian and a baby boomer, so I remember this theater in the days of old, although I was not exposed to live theater until I was in High School. This is an historic building which to me adds to the enjoyment. So I put up with small seats and small and slow elevator service. I believe every... More

I have seen numerous shows here and the theater is a beautiful historic setting. Now that they have renovated, and gotten a new paint color, the theater is even more stunning.

This is my second time here to see a performance (West Side Story & Dame Edna's Grand Glorious Farewell) conveniently located next to the Freedom Plaza short walk to the White House. Loved both shows, our balcony seats were comfortable, our view of the stage was great. Can't wait to get back to see another show (Dame Edna's Really Truly... More

What a wonderful venue for this wonderful show! The HUGE PROBLEM we had: the Starbucks adjacent to the theatre CLOSES AT 7pm! What the *heck* is that about? We had dinner with drinks, then got to the theatre at around 7:10 to enjoy a pre-dinner coffee - only to find it closed! We were so disappointed! We ended up walking... More

I've seen 2 shows here in the last two months - Blithe Spirit and Dame Edna's farewell show. Both were excellent. The theatre is a great place. The drinks are a bit pricey, but I guess you have to expect that. I found the balcony seats quite warm. We all know that heat rises, and it made those upper seats... More

I love this place. There are free movies here on Mondays during certain times of the year, and going to a live show is such a wonderful experience! Make a point to see a show here!

We attended Blithe Spirit, and really liked this venue. There's no shortage of restaurants in the area, and there's plenty of parking within a reasonable walk (though none associated with the theater). The acoustics and architecture are great.

I had the most wonderful evening seeing Angela Lansbury in "Blithe Spirit." It's one of those plays that have never gone off the stage, but this version was truly phenomenal. Seeing such a legend was an incredible treat and she gave the audience a masterclass on comedic acting. The theater is hardly opulent, but it's fine. Try to get seats... More

Saw "Blithe Spirit" with Angela Lansbury at the National Theatre. The theater is stunning and on par with many of the theaters in New York. This is Michael Blakemore’s revival of Noël Coward’s smash-hit comedy BLITHE SPIRIT. Ms. Lansbury plays Madame Arcati a medium supposedly able to get in touch with spirits of the departed on the "other" side. A... More

The National Theatre brings in touring productions. For a number of years, the offerings were less than ideal and not all that frequent. Recent offerings have been more interesting and higher quality (road company of Pipping and Blithe Spirit with Angela Lansbury). As far as the physical space itself, The National is the theater in DC that is the most... More
