For such a divine human being, this memorial does not do his legacy justice. The Reverend changed the course of human history with his feet. And his feet are not even carved into the stone. Also the work does not appear to be done by hand. It seemed as though it was machine carved. Visiting this monument saddens me.

This is a very well conceived monument. A perfect translation into stone of Martin Luther King's famous speech. There is even a feeling of latent movement. My only criticism is that there are too many extracts from the speech and this all means less impact. The simple phrase 'I have a dream' would suffice. Then again, the speech itself was... More

I know that today big memorials are financially impossible, but the MLK memorial is lacking in size and majesty. He and his country deserve more.

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial is one of our new favorites in Washington. As frequent visitors we have our every trip stops; our some trips; old faves, and now an evening visit to Martin, usually on our last night in town. We first went to the Memorial three years ago on a rainy evening after walking through the Roosevelt... More

Again, we were the only people there on the day, such a breathtaking memorial. MLK's statue was just incredible and the surrounding quotes were excellent.

Visiting this memorial at night was one of my favorite DC spots as the slabs of beautiful stone lit up and unscripted with his famous quotes was so elegant and showcased the rhetoric and power of his message, decades later to new generations. His larger than life statue captures the spirit of the man who helped forever change the landscape... More

I was excited when they finally opened this memorial. Beautiful statue of MLK with some amazing quotes facing the Tidal Basin.

We were there on a windy, rainy Nov day dealing with a walker to boot. It's a very simply laid out spot. Sits behind a wall and not visible from the street. Once there it's simplicity offers a quiet atmosphere. His statue is powerful and the engravings on the walls, even more powerful.

It is on the way to FDR Memorial. Its a nice location but not within the national mall area. You can walk, but 20 minutes from Holocaust Museum. You can also take the 'Circulator' bus, which is not mentioned anywhere on transit or visitor websites. I found out on my own. Hope you read this before visiting. I think this... More

This is a relatively new memorial for DC but one which exudes the history and importance of all the others in the area. MLK was a great man who rightfully deserves the memorial which was created in his memory. Take some time to read his most famous quotes which are carved into the wall surrounding his memorial. We could all... More
