I took a visit on MLK day around dusk to this memorial and it was so magical. My friend and I walked from the Smithsonian metro stop, past the Washington Monument, to the memorial. Beautiful walk, beautiful day. Would love to see the monument at night too.

Surrounded by his quotes, the statue of Martin Luther King Jr. stands at the edge of the Tidal Basin, facing the Jefferson Monument. He is literally a stone cleft from the mountain behind him. A walk through the FDR memorial, then MLK, to the Lincoln Memorial is thought provoking and uplifting.

It is great to see a modern memorial to a modern man. His quotes are displayed on the surrounding walls and the statue is huge! Definitely worth a visit.

We visited here on out monuments by moonlight tour. It was advised to enter the memorial through the mountains of despair and I have to say it was great advice. Entering through here just makes the memorial more spectacular and humbling. The quotes are inspiring and it is a wonderful memorial to an exceptional man.

I recently visited the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington DC at the Tidal Basin. There were only a few people there on this 20F day but the statue was beautiful and impressive. The memorial is in the shape of a quarter moon with quotations on a wall and the statue in the center. Later on in the Spring... More

This is a great spot, it's in a decent location, although getting across the street to the memorial can be a dangerous endeavor, particularly with little kids in tow. The quotes chosen are powerful, and after reading them, and standing in front of Dr. King, it's quite overcoming with emotion. It's as if he is staring out with disappointment, not... More

The pictures of this memorial do not do it justice. It is HUGE. And the positioning of it overlooking the Basin adds to its poignancy. My 10 year old son was fascinated by the quotes on the wall and the memorial statue, we had trouble getting him to leave when it was time to move on. The rangers stationed here... More

The memorial is a very creative one with the quotes of MLK scribed into a curve wall surrounding the extremely impressive statue of MLK. We went in summer and it was very bright so sunglasses recommended!

This is an inspiring sculpture not only because of it's scale but also it's presence and story. We visited after dark and it had a greater presence as there were very few people around and the lighting gave great contrast to the shadowed areas.

I was at the University of Maryland at College Park at the time Martin Luther king gave his for most famous specch, in the Mall, and not many years later almost 50 I can see how this man fought to give every citizen in the world not only americans , but for all races, creeds, gender, a new vision of what...
