Inspiring

The monument of MLK coming out of the stone mountain is very well done. The rest of the monument is a simple wall with some of his most inspiring quotes. A must see!

My first visit here. The massiveness is stunning and the idea of him emerging from the mountain is amazing. I loved all of it - including his famous quotes etched into the wall. Do not miss this!!! It has moved up to my "top 5" favorites in DC.

I particularly appreciated that MLK faces the Lincoln Memorial. Quite fitting. The wall containing his sayings was enlightening for a few of them I had not read or heard of his views on those subjects before. What I did not like was that a guard had to be present to keep weirdos from defacing property. How sad, but considering some... More

We found this memorial as part of an 8-10 mile walk, and I don't really know how we found it! I'm seriously glad we did. Not only is it a powerful memorial, but its also located on a lovely walk, overlooking beautiful views. I would recommend you to plan this in to a tour of DC - really worth it.

I had seen some photos of this monument when it was first opened, and was generally not impressed. But one day, while taking a stroll around DC, I found myself nearby and decided to take a look. I'm glad I did. In person, I found it much more impressive, even inspirational. It's a beautiful setting, the sculpture has power in... More

I felt this monument was simply perfect. There are always different opinions but seeing Dr. King carved out of a mountain of rock seemed incredibly appropriate. The entire memorial seemed just perfect for an American hero...

I was in the Washington area for business, I was sick and did not meet up with my family or friends in the area, but I HAD to see the memorial. I went by myself at 8:00 in the evening (no traffic, no crowds). I felt completely safe since there were 3 tourist buses and security. The memorial was easy... More

This memorial is not one to miss. The inscriptions, the statue, the entire monument inspires awe and much-needed conversations about the struggles that are still going on in our country.

It was an experience to be close to this larger than life memorial of such a well known and important figure in American history. This memorial is worth visiting, and is close to many other sites to see.

The words truly provide a summation of the man. I've also seen his memorial in San Francisco which is really cool too, but this one is even better. There is one in Atlanta too. Maybe next to the basin, next to the cherry trees (probably amazing to see it in peak blossom season) but it's truly brilliant. I just read... More
