This was a must-see for us on our private tour of DC. We got a lot of background info on the controversy of the memorial, and I have to say I understand. The art isn't really what you'd expect, and our tour guide explained that there was a lot of outrage over the pose, the harshness of the overall statue,... More

This is a really nice memorial to visit. The stone sculpture of him is an amazing thing to see. It's also nice to read the inspirational quotes he made carved into the stone.

Powerful. A huge man, coming out of stone. The huge piece of stone, separated from a mountain. In the backdrop is the Washington Monument. On the wall are favorite quotes - I think I cried the most at this memorial. The memorial captured what a memorial is suppose to do - to remember, give thanks, educate, and inspire. Definitely the... The memorial sits off to itself in a peaceful spot at the Tidal Basin overlooking the Jefferson Memorial; it is inscribed on the side with the quote “Out of the Mountain of Despair a Stone of Hope” He’s standing with his arms crossed looking across the Potomac River. Other inspirational quotes are inscribed around the statue on the walls.

The monument depicts a mountain with the middle section moved forward as integration has moved forward in history. Martin L King is carved in the front middle section. It is massive and imposing. I recommend being at the National Mall EARLY. I was there at 7am and was basically the only one there. It's much more moving to be there... More

A great stroll to or from other monuments along the way. It is situated on a great site, and is a very moving exhibit.

It's a very lovely monument in a garden-like setting, with a beautiful statue of Dr. King and quotes from his works. It adjoins the FDR memorial, which is similar.

There's a lot to see in the Mall area, but I recently saw the MLK memorial and it was very impressive. The setting is beautiful - Dr. King's statue is looking towards the Jefferson Memorial and his back is towards the Lincoln memorial where he gave his 'I have a dream' speech. The stone wings of the monument show some... More

Take the time to read all of the quotes on the walls then grab a seat on one of the benches under a tree facing the water.
