In West Potomac Park, this memorial celebrates the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a series of quotes from his sermons and writings surrounding an enormous slab of rock on which he is portrayed. The inscription is apropos -- "A stone of hope from a mountain of despair" -- as the rock seems to have been pulled from... More

Very nice monument and a great replica of Dr. King. Seeing it on TV or in pictures does not do it justice. Very nice quotes surround the monument, and this visit will not take up a lot of your time.

It's a nice memorial, set on a beautiful spot. Take your time, then enjoy a walk around the water! It's on the way from the Mall to the FDR and Jefferson Memorials.

This memorial is absolutely beautiful. It's simplicity is what makes it so breathtaking. The quotes that are dispersed around the memorial, the structures and the layout, just wonderful.

The memorial is simplistic in its design but very moving and through provoking and gives areas to sit and reflect on what you have just seen.

As the newest memorial in the mall, the MLK NM is easy to miss : it wasn't talked about in my guide book, and the entrance is not so clear (you don't see it from the Lincoln memorial or from far away...) I missed the guided tour with the park rangers : it's every hour, at the beginning of every... More

It was extremely fascinating to see this monument on the national mall. It is a tribute to the wisdom of the nation that Martin Luther King, Jr. has been given a pride of place on the national mall, alongside that of Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson and FDR. It is a tribute to contribution of MLK that this monument is visited by... More

Read his words and you will get his feeling and vision. Do not miss his amazing sculpture. It will truly fill your mind with the sorrow, anger and joy of his life.

Photos do not do justice to the size and grandeur of this memorial. DCs relatively new MLK memorial is a must see. You walk through it and there is a lot of literature engraved in the stones with lines of parts of his famous speeches. Our kids thought it was very impressive too

Since we had last visited DC this memorial was one which had recently been added and was a very impressive tribute to the man and the work he did. The memorial shows many of his quotes and a ranger was giving a talk when we where there and it was good to listen to information on MLK, his work, and... More
