Came across it while strolling through the tidal basin. Statue is simply yet spectacular. Another great picture into our album.

I like the convenience of the location. It was a nice and simple way of honoring a man who did so much.

This memorial is one of the best. It is so simple and understated but makes such a powerful statement with it. A must if visiting the national mall.

This is a relatively new memorial and it is beautifully done. The setting is one of the most lovely in all of D.C. It is at the edge of the Tidal Basin with the Jefferson Memorial on the opposite side. Fortunately, we were there when the cherry blossoms were 80% out. Absolutely stunning. MLK readings are inscribed on stone walls,... More

Dr. Martin Luther King quotes are on the walls, this is where I appreciate the wisdom of a man who took a non violent approach to a system of oppression. I hope this inspires others to go about change with that same approach.

I really didn't get the feel that the statue resembled such a great man. It was quite cold and disconnected as far as I was concerned. This was also the only memorial we visited where people were yelling and screaming and trying to clim on the memorial. Pretty poor form considering this was a man responsible for great change. Bit... My husband and I were there just last week at sunrise during Cherry blossoms. What a beautiful sight that was. MLK statue looked majestic over looking the tidal basin. Cherry blossoms were a nice touch, but even without that, the statues and MLK readings around the memorial are vertainly worth a visit. Very easily accessible for physically challenged, can walk... The MLK Memorial is dominated by a large full-body stone statue of MLK embedded in a huge rock that itself was cut out of a larger rock, leaving the entrance to the Memorial. Quotes by MLK are inscribed on the walls of the Memorial. The Memorial looks out over the Tidal Basin and provides great views when the cherry blossoms... More

It is opposite the Jefferson Memorial on a beautiful site around the Tidal basin. It strikes me that more attention could have been paid to choosing a better memorial. The carving is not to the standard that I would have expected in Washington. MLK deserved something more reverential.

I liked the simplicity of the sculptures and the meaning. The size of the memorial grounds...not huge, but not crowded, and the location on the water added to the peacefulness of the visit.
