Off the beaten path, but this is a must-see attraction. I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful this church is. The artwork is amazing, and there is a true peace that permeates the place, even for non-Catholics. The staff is knowledge and helpful, and there are many quiet places to reflect. more

Wonderful Building which is really beautiful and large. A must see for DC visitors, No charges. Makes the national cathedral look small but you must visit them as well. Gigantic works of art, Banners, marble, gold. Really a spectacular place to see. Don't miss it. more

Beautiful beautiful beautiful. I have not truly been a Catholic since my First Communion, but I was very moved by this place. It was my favorite stop in DC. The individual shrines are breathtaking, and I find it fascinating at how many different people (Knute Rockne!) and countries contributed to the building of this place. Definitely take a tour from... more

My wife and I had just visited the US Capitol and walked the few short blocks to Union Station and caught the Metro Red Line to the Brookland CUA (Catholic University of America) stop. Another short walk brought us to the gorgeous CUA campus and the shrine. Upon entering the shrine, we picked up one of the brochures that help... more

This place is huge. Go here first, it's a not too miss kinda place. No charges. Makes the national cathedral kind of dull in comparison. Gigantic works of art, marble, gold. Really a spectacular place to see. Don't miss it. more

If you are like me, this is an absolute must-see place. When I travel in Europe, I love to visit cathedrals and grand churches and in the US, none of ours are nearly as old or historic as the older European ones. However, for the US, it's harder to find a more spectacular place than this Catholic church located at... more

Off in the northeast corner of D.C. this Catholic Basilica doesn't get as much attention as the Episcopal "National Cathedral" but it should. It is unbelievably beautiful and on the campus of the Catholic University of America. It is a must see in my opinion and one of the 10 largest churches in the world. Who knew? The most awesome... more

I live in DC and I have the privilege to call the Shrine home and attend mass there. It is simply magnificent. I never get bored of its beauty. Every corner, every little space is so incredibly beautiful, so much to see. Yet you have a feeling of a very warm place. I am from France and I have seen... more

A visit to the shrine is well worth the quick metro ride from center city! We recommend visiting early in the day and having breakfast in the convenient on-site cafeteria. The shrine has a welcoming-yet-worshipful "feel" and is actively used for prayer and pilgrimage at all times, allowing the responsible tourist an opportunity to be involved in or an observer... more
