Little known fact: FDR once said that if anyone ever wanted to honor him in Washington, DC he wanted nothing more than a plaque somewhere. He didn't want a big monument. On a corner of a street, near Archives, is such a plaque. But then they built this monument against FDR's wishes. Located on the shores of the Tidal Basin,... More

This memorial walks you through time and the four administrations of FDR. You should start at the side closest to the Martin Luther King memorial. Water, which played such an important role in FDR's personal and political life, is an essential part of this memorial. Once you experience this, you want to learn more about the amazing accomplishments of FDR's... More

The FDR Memorial should not be missed. It was serene and thought provoking. This monument does more to show case his legacy than any of the other memorials we visited.

Amazing waterfalls and lights. The children seem to really enjoy this memorial as there are more parts and statues that they can get up close to.

FDR, was a great man. The memorial is also great. So much reminds you what FDR did for our country. What a great memorial.

I had heard of the FDR memorial but it always seemed to be off the beaten path. I found it to be worth the extra walk. The sayings inscribed on the walls are just as timely today as when spoken. The water features were refreshing on a hot, humid day.

You really need to know the story of FDR to grasp his presidency through this monument. There is little information, and his story is told more through abstract images (depiction of his Depression-era agencies created) or sculpture without plaques.
