The Capitol is among the most architecturally impressive and symbolically important buildings in the world. The Senate and the House of Representatives have met here for more than two centuries. Begun in 1793, the Capitol has been built, burnt, rebuilt, extended, and restored; today, it stands as a monument not only to its builders but also to the American people and their government.

Our tour guide was average and having been on the tour before we felt she missed the best story of the tour (the acoustics in Statuary Hall). We over heard other tour guides who seemed warmer and more personable. That aside it is a great tour that you should try to do while in DC. The history and beauty is... More

I was in Washingon, D.C. for one day and decided to see the Capitol builiding since I hadn't seen it before. Free tours are offered by a guide using a headset so you can hear. Prior to the tour, a film is shown, which explains how America got to this point in history and how much our forefathers gave up... More

Every summer my children and I pick a different museum to go to, each week letting them alternate and choose where we go. This time the decision was mine and I picked the Capitol. One of my favorite field trip memories is from elementary school and visiting the Capitol. The highlight of that trip was the underground subway system that... More

the history, which I have taught myself much about the Capitol, still fills me with awe. Such a now powerful nation that at one time defeated the most powerful economic and military power then in existence rose from a group of dedicated and intellectual rebels willing to risk it all.

If you are planning to go, be sure to contact your Senator or Congressman 6 to 8 weeks prior to your trip to schedule a tour. Otherwise, like us, you will be looking at it from the road.

It's pretty cool, as a visitor, to be able to see the dome from different points in the city, as with the Washington Monument. What you don't realize from afar, however, is that the building is really architecturally interesting. I especially connected to the oasis-like fountain and white granite levels with palm trees in the back of the building. It... More

The building is longer/larger than I had imagined, so it was very nice to go and see. We also got an inside tour, but only right under the dome area, thus not of the entire building. But it was still nice.

I booked a tour of the capital expecting to get a nice small group tour of the capital. Instead I got shuffled into a room of three hundred people to watch a fifteen minute video. Then I get split into a group of fifty people to see a whole three rooms of the capital (the crypt, the rotunda, and the... More
