Whenever I'm in DC, I visit the Freer and Sackler Galleries, and they're usually the first stop on my list. Other reviewers will have touched on the normal highlights, but if you're going to be in DC while the "37 Views of Mt. Fuji" exhibit is being shown, don't miss it! More

These joined museums do not draw the huge crowds, and so much the better. The exhibited items are nicely spread out and well-explained, but each of the rooms being mostly dedicated to a particular country or region with unique cultures makes each room pretty much independent of te otherrs, so you can visit the museum in inrements of 30 minutes... This museum actually is composed of two - the Freer Gallery and the Sackler Gallery, both of which are dedicated to exhibiting Asian art. In 1906, Charles Lang Freer donated his impressive collection of Asian art to the nation and the gallery opened to the public in 1923, the first museum on the Smithsonian campus. Dr. Arthur M. Sackler, a... More

Permanent and visiting collections were both fantastic and the building itself is wonderful. The grounds and the building are an oasis of peacefulness and quiet in the midst of a very busy National Mall. More

If you have an appreciation for the Asian arts you will LOVE the Freer & Sackler Galleries. I find the spaces to be laid-out rather strangely so you do have to use the map provided to be sure to see all the exhibits. They offer regular special shows and exhibits, but the Whistler Room in itself is well worth the... More

Awesome museums for asian treasures. The museums are beutiful with great displays. Nice peaceful, quiet= not crowded like the other museums on the Mall. I've been to Asia several times and the collections here are great and stand up to any Asian museum. Go-enjoy yourself and experience the beauty and wonder of Asian art. More

The Freer Gallery is a mix of impressionist art, focussed on Whistler, and old eastern artwork. It is worth a visit, if only to see Whistler's magnificent Peacock room. it is u sully much quieter than the big Smithsonian museums across the mall, and can be a nice escape. More

This year is the 100th anniversary of the gift from Japan of the beautiful cherry trees that are blooming. In conjunction with this there are great exhibits in both the Freer and Sackler galaries. At the Freer 36 views of Mt Fujii by Hokusai and screens and scrolls by Hokusai in the Sackler. There are also Buddhist scrolls, incredible Iranian... More

With its underground location well away from any daylight, one can escape the crowds and usually admire the Asian displays in hushed silence, and even get absorbed by them. I did just that with the colorful, 19th century paintings of depictions of Bhudda and his disciples, by Japan's Kano Kazunobu. This coincides with the National Cherry Blossom Festival, and blooms...
