I always like gardens, and even though nothing was in bloom during our visit in March, I still enjoyed seeing the layout of the garden, and the sculptures, plantings, and walkways throughout the area. Definitely a place to walk through if you are in DC during spring, summer, or fall. A little oasis hidden away from the busy museums and... More

I went into Smithsonian Castle to grab a drink, and unexpected found this gem on the south side of the building. It is a beautifully sculpted garden, lush green even in December for some reason. It is a bit hidden away, so I suspect many visitors are not aware of its existance. The result is a surprisingly quiet and serene... More

The Enid a. Haupt Garden is located at the front and side/back areas of the SMITHSONIAN INSTITUTION BUILDING (locals call it the "Castle"). For first time visitors of Washington, DC museums, this building is the best place to get an overview of ALL Smithsonian Museums and its other attractions. You get FREE MAPS and can visit some limited exhibits of... More

After spending hours in tourist and kid filled museums, this is the perfect place to unwind. Getting something to go from a restaurant and eating in the garden is a great idea, and there's plenty of different plants for you to look at, which is like heaven for a gardener.

This is one of those areas that you would rather not publicize since some of the attractiveness is the lack of people! This is such a lovely spot and it's just on the other side of the Smithsonian Castle from the Washington Mall - away from all the hustle and bustle. It's a lovely spot to go to get away... More

I have been here TWICE in last month. The first time, the Magnolias were all in blossom...WOW! Then just last week, the pansies are wonderful. There are so many different kinds of flowers/ trees.. something is always blooming. Well worth a visit. Did you know that - with TWO floors of galleries underground here - this is considered the largest... More

The Enid A. Haupt Garden on Independence Avenue, a block from the Smithsonian Metro Station, is one of the most colorful in Washington when the magnolia trees are in bloom, generally in late March or early April. This year the peak bloom was around April 8th. I can’t imagine more flowers lining the garden paths. There were blossoms everywhere I... More

This beautiful garden is tucked behind the Smithsonian Castle. Full of magnolia trees and flower gardens, there are benches available to rest and enjoy the garden. While there were some people there, I saw plenty of seating. If you are a gardener, this will certainly inspire you.
