This is a very nice drive in the woods along the shore. The road is narrow and not designed for high speed travel. We had no problem taking our RV over the road but the clearance was tight. We took a break at the Samish Bay overlook. There were some very nice story boards at the overlook documenting the oyster... More

Not for the squeamish driver or passenger. The road is narrow with no shoulders (10' lanes bordered by rock right up to the edge of the lane). Beautiful views, if this doesn't distract you.

Great views of San Juan Islands, a few great picnic spots and viewpoints, an oyster farm, restaurants, popular hiking trails, a long history, and a mountain-hugging road - what's not to love? Look out for cyclists!

My friend and I picked a wonderful sunny weekend to enjoy Chuckanut Drive and along the way stopped at the Oyster Bar for a gourmet dinner with the freshest selection of oysters. The view from the restaurant overlooking the water is incredible and oysters were absolutely delicious.

I was alerted to the existence of this picturesque, scenic drive by locals who insisted I must experience it. I listened and was rewarded by the amazing vistas, towering forests and cliff faces that comprise State Route 11. It is touted as a "slow-paced alternative to Interstate-5". Any route allowing you to escape the break-neck speeds that characterize the I-5,... More

An evening drive along Chuckanut Drive is a feast for the eyes as the sun sets behind the San Juan Islands. Especially good when the tide is high, but anytime is worth a trip. Stop at Larrabee State Park to get closer to the water.

I have done this drive twice now and it is gloriously beautiful. To be fair, both times I have done it, I have been blessed with lovely weather. The drive is twisty and narrow, but between the trees and the ocean views, it is definitely a must do!

I never tire of this drive with breathtaking views out of the water to the San Juan Islands. This was once considered part the Pacific Highway drive from SanDiego or so it said on the information board. Opposing directions offer different viewpoints of course and well worth the extra time instead of taking route 5 to Bellingham from Burlington. Be... More

Took this drive at the advice of a friend and was not disappointed. Stopped to take in some trails at Lost Lake and had a great time. A little extra time on the road but well worth the diversion.

I've driven the chuckanut many times on my Goldwing. It's scenic windy road is a treat for any motorcyclist. Several stops at viewpoints offer outstanding views of the ocean and San Juan Islands. Top it off with a short run to Edson and then back home. If you've got the time drive over to Annacortes. Great little town with a... More
