Beautiful scenic drive, albeit portion of the road is too curvy and make us felt dizzy after a while. Prepare to spend 3 to 4 hours on the byway and a stop at Peter Norbeck Overlook for a good view of Mount Rushmore. After left Belle Fourch, We had a picnic near the creek, the water was so cold. A lovely daytrip to this Scenic road. Don't forget to pay a visit to the Site of "Dance with the wolf". More

The Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway was a beautiful drive through Custer State Park. Iron Mountain Road is part of the byway, and it is a long and winding road with many tunnels. From Keystone, SD, we wandered onto US-16A … the Peter Norbeck Scenic Byway. Now THAT’S a scenic byway. Beautiful curved roads that wound their way through evergreen forests and through a series of tunnels. At the end of at least two of the one-lane tunnels were amazing views of the four presidents. We did not enjoy this route. It is full of curves and there is no guide rail on the side of the mountain. There are several tunnels to go through one at a time so you have to wait on the side until someone gets through the tunnel. It is one way up and down so once you start you... More
