This was the second year we had the day trip to Blue Ridge Parkway. We took the southern loop in North Carolina last week (end Oct-09) to enjoy the beauty of the fall colors. Though this year the leaves have mysteriously fallen at a time when they were supposed to peak, the slopes still had much of the beauty on... more

We traveled the southern half of the Blue Ridge Parkway during the fall. It was a terrific drive. Wear your hiking shoes, there are many trails to explore. Be sure to bring your camera, beautiful views around every corner. more

There is no way to describe the beauty you will find on this drive. You can not get in a hurry and it will take some time but if you are in the area you should try this. more

Here's what was great about it (me and my kids 10 & 13): (We took about 11 days to do this trip -- it could have been longer of course but I don't know if it could have been a lot shorter.....) 1. Fly in to Dulles 2. Drive to Sperryville, VA (about 80 miles, marks pretty much the entrance... more

We caught the parkway around Deep Gap coming from Winston-Salem and it was exquisite. We visited on May 1, 2008 and it was very quiet, no traffic and just gorgeous. It was hard not to stop and take pictures at every stop. There was a detour due to clearing downed trees at one point and ended up in Floyd, Virginia... more

The BRP is worth its weight in gold. While the colors in the spring and autumn might be beautiful, something is lost when there are a lot of cars on the road. I recommend going during the weekday while school is in session. The feeling…well it’s almost enchanting. You will not be disappointed regardless what time of the year you... more

The Blue Ridge Parkway is a natural wonder! We drove down from Ohio to see the Smoky Mountains. We then headed toward Cold Mountain for a picture. The vistas are beautiful. The drive is quite pleasant. Do not try to rush through the area. The curves up and down the mountains will insist that you slow down and enjoy! more
