Long island is very quiet and clean with not too many tourists. It would be a great place if you are tired of the noisy new york. It’s just like the long island in Japan after World War II. With that bomb, everything restarts. The first stop is definitely Lavender by the bay (7540 New York 25, East Marion, NY... More

My husband and I hired a car for 2 days to explore the island. However it proved to be larger than we anticipated and we only managed to veiw a small part of it. But is was great fun exploring and a nice respite from the city.

Long Island NY is not what you may picture! Expensive, over-priced, run down, and boring. It seems like some folks like to go to a lot of trouble to get to a crappy spot. Well, if you are one of those Long Island NY is the place! Over priced is to put it mildly! They have a corner on the... More

If you're looking for a decent place to vacation with reasonable prices and friendly folks, DO NOT go to LONG ISLAND! It is horrendously ugly (mostly urban sprawl), unbearably hot & humid in the summer, and the people are competitive, nasty, & vicious. They all drive like kamikazes on a suicide mission. The locals are vapid, shallow, money-hungry, extremely rude,... More

Having lived on Long Island most of my life I can attest to the horrendous traffic, and even the occasional rudeness of people. But there are treasures to be found if you know what to look for. It is NOT the typical tourist location however and I wouldn't make this a vacation desintation except in certain circumstances. Such as -... More

The people of Long Island are the rudest of them all. I think it's the overwhelming traffic that makes them that way. They are all self absorbed and do not care one stitch about those around them.

Long Island is a treasure on its own. really varied and with multiple things to do and places to visit. When you live in New York City, it is a place to escape to. You have the beaches, the vineyards, and the famous Hamptons. SO now that the summer is here why don't you venture into your own piece of... More

Just recently returned from a tour of eastern Long Island----- playground of the rich and famous. They are certainly there. A drive anywhere near the shoreline certainly shows the affluence in abundance ( the infamous 1% ). But after many repetitions one gets used to the sight of a fifty room dwelling and gawking at wealth thereafter becomes a bit... More

Right now is not a good time to visit Long Island. So many areas have been affected by Hurricane Sandy. My suggestion is to wait a while, donate what you can to help restore the areas that have been destroyed and to help those who have no more homes to go to because of this. I love Long Island, it...
