This is a great place for beautiful views. I drove up w/my small kids. The drive up/down can be nerve wracking (if u r afraid of heights), but spectacular! We drove up w/ground temps about 75deg.F., & reached the top & found those temps to be about 30deg colder w/whipping winds. The winds were VERY intense (almost felt like my... More

While vacationing in North Conway, New Hampshire, we drove up Mount Washington. Upon purchasing the tickets, we were given a CD to play on our way up. It was very informative, but difficult to listen to while enjoying the scenery and watching the road. I am the type that loves challenging drives. This road is narrow - but still 2... More

We drove up Auto Road to summit of Mt. Washington in peak color. It was so scary as the road was narrow and no guardrails and we had to squeeze by with the opposite traffic. But the view was fantastic with colors as far as you can see. It was so windy at the top that our son, 10 years... More

We recently went up the auto road. due to the weather we could only go up half way. Here is a video that contains some footage. http://youtu.be/l-dGLxUGnZc I was kind of glad we could only go half way. I think that going down would have wreaked havoc on my brakes. If was to ever do it again I would take... More

we drove up the auto road at Mt. Washington New Hampshire on a beautiful fall day. the 8 miles drive up to the summit of 6288 feet was breath taking. you left the trees and forests and as you climbed they went to stunted shrubs and then to the rocky existence of the Mountain. you could see between 90-100 miles... The trail head started right near the Cog Railroad. We climbed for just over 4 hours and enjoyed the time and sights. Above the tree line the fog started coming in, but the trail is well marked and there were other hikers around if you needed assistance. The wind gusts were pretty extreme about .5 miles from the top, but... More

We hiked Mount Washington on March, which was a bit icy and snowy. Be prepared any time of year to layer up as it can get super cold or hot depending on what elevation you are at. We all brought large backpacks filled with clothing and food. This trip was challenging as we were hiking on ice and we fell... More

I first climbed Mt. Washington about fifty-five years ago with my father. I was eleven at the time and had a wonderful experience. Since then I have hiked to the summit with my own kids, eight and eleven at the time, my wife and also various friends. I have been to the top about fifteen times in all. This is... More

My wife and I went to hike Mt. Washington on vacation. The people at the bottom were very helpful with information and what to expect along the hike. About 2/3 up the mountain we entered into the clouds. Weather turned poor and after wandering around the mountain for a while, we finally found the summit. Instead of walking back down... More

The 8 mile drive up to the summit of Mount Washington is unique and you will remember it for a long time. A small warning, this is not a drive for the weak of heart. If you are not sure you're up to it, the park offers guided tours for a fee. Head south on Rt. 16 from Gorham, about... More
