The bicycling is great on the Heartland Trail. The pavement is smooth and well maintained; the grade is mostly flat. Many parts of the trail are shaded and have beautiful views - everything from wooded glens to valleys and lakes. You can ride for miles and miles and miles.........

There is great parking from Heartland Park in Park Rapids. I walked about 30 minutes toward Dorset. There were quite a few people on the trail but it did not feel crowded. There was good shade and the trail was smooth.

We enjoyed a bike ride our last morning in Park Rapids. What a nice trail with great sites along the way. Tall pine trees and small lakes are found along this flat and smooth trail. It wasn't too busy with other bikers or walkers. We began in Dorset and shopped there afterwards. What a great activity for a summer day.

This a rail line trail (an old railroad bed converted to more practical use). It has mild grades. It is in great condition. There are no motors allowed in the spring/summer/fall. It's basically awesome. I've been biking on this trail many times and it's pretty quiet. At times it closely parallels a highway, other times you may end up racing... More
