It was so interesting to see how a tractor is put together from start to finish. The tour guides were very knowledgeable (former employees) and could answer any questions people had. Interesting to hear some of the differences in equipment requirements for overseas products as opposed to those sold in the USA. Riding the tram and having headphones to hear... More

I spent 36 years, working for the diesel engine facility of John Deere, but had never toured the tractor assembly factory. It was very well done. The introductory movie was good and the tour guide and driver showed us exactly how they put those huge tractors together. It's amazing how many different versions they build, based on the country and... More

We were going to be passing through Ottumwa, Iowa and decided to call John Deere that morning to see if a tour could be arranged. They graciously called us back and agreed to allow us to come for the late morning tour. It worked out great and the tour was given by a very nice newly retired former employee of... More

This tour has been on our radar for years and we finally made it. No disappointments here from the huge free parking lot to the clean, beautiful facility. Nice people work here to make the tour enjoyable. There is so much to see and they have it really well thought out from start to finish. I am glad we went... More

Tours are given by John Deere retirees, so they know the product and the company well. The introductory film gives a good overview of the company history, and the role John Deere had in developing agriculture across the frontier that was the Great Plains. We had a Gold Key tour, which is more detailed and longer than the regular tour.... More

My husband (a farmer) and I had a fantastic time on this tour! There is a short video presentation beforehand, then everyone boards a small "tram" for a ride-along tour of the factory. For anyone who is interested in or works with tractors, this tour is a must! I would totally recommend this tour!

Factory was easy to find...in a more rural type area. Tours are free (and parking is free), but one must make an advance reservation (google their web site for toll free number to call). Following a short educational film, a small amount of walking to get to the actual factory area and then the factory tour is given via a... More

I must start by saying that although farming is in my blood I think this would be a neat attraction for non farming folks to visit. It would interest many people from those into engineering to those who study processes and workflow management. The tours are well organised and started with a bit of background to some of the items... More
