We were tipped off about this fascinating place by a volunteer at the Fort Christmas Historical Park which is nearby. And, were we glad! How interesting! This is a man-made wetlands created by reclaimed discharge from the Bridge Plant in South Seminole County. A 75-acre lake was created which provided fill for the berm construction that surround the 18 wetland... More

This place was a jewel of places to visit. Volunteers and friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of area and wildlife. For a donations volunteers will take you on a golf cart tour and provide lots of information on wildlife. From alligators, racoons, turtles and otters to so many species of birds I lost track. You have to make this a destination soon.

My partner and I visited Orlando Wetlands in March this year on the recommendation of a visitor we met at Merritt Island. It is a wetland area that acts as a water treatment plant for Orlando, taking in waste water, passing it through the reedbeds and out into the St John River, cleaner than the river water itself. The area... More

Went to the Orlando Wetlands Park looking for some wildlife photo opportunities. I did not walk a long way, but I did see a Great Blue Heron, a Great Egret and a flock of Sand Hill Cranes. However, they were pretty far off. The wetlands are so large, it is hard to get a close up of the wildlife. The... More

One of our favorite Nature spots in Florida. Didn't get to visit last year because we were in the area January. They are closed between Nov and January. The best part of this visit was actually getting close enough to a pair of crested Caracara to be able to take pictures. We have seen them in the distance before, but... More

In some ways this up there with Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge where you can see many of the same birds and animals. It is clearly a great place for birding, and apparently this is the place to see a Purple Gallinule (although I wasn't so lucky when I visited). It is an absolutely beautiful nature setting with walking trails... More

We've come here several times with different groups of friends and family and it's always a great day. Come on a weekend and call ahead to be sure they're offering the guided golf-cart tours for an extra-special time. The wildlife is amazing. The diversity of bird life rivals the Ding Darling Reserve in Sanibel. Plus there are great opportunities for... More

I loved the park and the ability to see several species of birds with little walking (note little is less than 6 miles total for the trip). The park has a few different ecosystems so it draws several types of birds from the Bald Eagle to small water birds. With luck you can reign in the quad-fecta and see a... More

We visited one of our favourite spots in Orlando in late April 2014 to discover that many of the 'wetlands' were anything but wet, as they had been drained and various diggers and bulldozers were doing heaven-knows-what there. In what water remained we saw just two adult gators and maybe half a dozen babies and that was it! No racoons... More

This is the City of Orlando’s Iron Bridge Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant. Big parking lot, great restrooms, drinking fountain, map of the wetlands provided, large pavilion with about 14 picnic tables. I went the last part of Feb. The park is closed the middle of Nov through the end of January. Lots of migrating birds within easy eyesight. We took... More
