Beautiful drive out to Lemon Lake and Vallecito Lake. We weren't real sure about the dirt road that goes around part of the lake, but we made the drive and it was outstanding viewing. Be sure to check out both lakes!

Great fishing for brown and rainbow trout, walleye, pike. The lake is very large this year and almost flooded due to the rainy season. I have seen it only about a quarter full during last years drought. They rent boats and paddle boats at the marina. The weather is usually very nice 70-80 daytime, 30-50 at night depending on which time... More

If you are thinking about coming to Vallecito to enjoy the lake on a rented boat forget it. The marina has shut down and as far as we know there are no plans for another one

One of our favorite family getaways! Lovely area, great fishing, and boat rentals are a good price. We rented a cabin for our family, walking distance to the lake, great restaurants, and close enough to Durango if you need any larger items.

Great place, wonderful weather and the folks are friendly as well. A little crowded but it was a holiday weekend so it was to be expected.

I have visited this area, sometimes twice yearly, for almost 30 years now. My grandparents retired to the Durango/Vallecito area when I was a child and I spent weeks at a time up here. Now as an adult I still continue to visit whenever I can and hope to retire here. It is tucked away in a beautiful mountain valley... More

Our first visit to Vallecito Lake was very pleasant. The drive there from the Albuquerque, NM area is quite pretty. There are numerous lodging options and a reasonable amount of eating establishments around the lake. There's also a marina which we didn't use because there was a canoe available for use at our cabin. We were surprised that the lake... More

While the drive up to Vallecito Lake is much prettier than Durango area itself (much more lush, green pasture areas, and mountains filled with evergreen trees and aspens, along with a pretty river that runs near the road), the drought at the lake itself makes the area less appealing as it possibly was early in the spring season. It is... More

Vallecito Lake is a beautiful lake outside of Durango. Although the landscape shows signs of a forest fire in 2003, it is recovering nicely. The lake is large enough to not be overly crowded and is a great place to land some fish. We rented a pontoon boat and enjoyed spending the day just relaxing and enjoying the surroundings.
