Do. Not. Miss. That's it. Oh, and find "Giant Tree". It's not really well marked on any one map. But if you decipher several together, you'll find it. It's off the Avenue about 5 miles, towards Albee Campground. Signage is crap until you hit the parking lot. But this tree was the highlight of two days in the Redwoods for... More

If you are going further north to the breathtaking Redwood National Park or the other state parks that dot this region then you can give this a miss, if time is a constraint. If you are driving up from Bay area or south and this is your final destination, it is a great introduction to the Redwoods of the coast... More

the redwoods are awesome. The road is well maintained and allowed a smooth drive. All signs are well marked, which made finding our hike trails easy to find.

Words can't express how wonderful this journey is. The enormous redwood trees soar into the sky and there are photo opportunities around every corner. Take a detour along the Avenue of the Giants if travelling along Hwy 101 - it would be a crime to miss such beauty.

A wonderful 31 mile drive that takes you away from the traffic on the main highway and into the splendor of these extraordinary and beautiful giant trees! Wonderful little towns and places to stop at along the way for food, etc., and a must do if travelling in the area!

Drove all over northern CA and this is by far the best place to see the trees in a natural habitat. Highway 101, through Humboldt State Park, just take the exit and it is a mostly drive at your own pace through the park. There are brochures for the auto tour that you need to stop and get at both... This is one of the nicest patches of the 101. Serene and full of natural beauty. Not much more to be expected. It is an amazing drive

Avenue of the Giants is a road running through the Humboldt State Park and is a forest of redwoods. It is well worth a detour of Hwy 101 and to be recommended. There are many trails , some long some short ( ideal for little ones) . The visitor centre is a mine of information. There is an auto trail... More

We wanted an end-of-the-summer, relaxing trip. We chose to drive up to the North Coast of CA via 101 and pass through the Avenue of the Giants. It seems that your stresses and worries just fade away as you drive into this beautiful area. You must stop and walk through the Redwoods to get the true feel of size and... More

Instead of driving the 101, detour to the 31 mile Avenue of the Giants. Give yourself enough time (maybe 3 hours) because if you're like us, you'll be so amazed that you'll have to stop at each grove to just stand in awe. There are multiple exits back to 101 in case you need to watch time. Don't miss this... More
