You can look up photos of redwood trees on Google Earth but it is NOT the same as driving mere feet away from these amazing giants. Along this 31-mile meandering highway are several pull-outs. Our family of five couldn't bear just driving by. We stopped, got out of our car, and wandered through the trees. Sometimes, we were completely alone... More

This place was recommended at the Thomas H Kuchel visitors centre. You come off Highway 101 and take this more scenic route through the forest. Some of the trees are amazing, like the Giant Tree which has a circumference of 53.2 feet. There is also a tree which you can drive through with your car for $6. However, the forest... More

If you have a family from any urban or suburban area, you owe it to your children to show them a whole new natural world of tall trees in a natural environment--not Disneyland. The wonders of forest including the wild animals, trees and flowers, and even--the bugs! There's quiet in the forest where you have the time to actually hear... More

This will add about an hour to your tip but well worth the relaxing drive through the Redwood Giants. Don't forge to stop and enjoy the forest along the way. Some great photo ops for sure!

It is like stepping back in time to when trees ruled the Earth! Even the road passing through is dwarfed by the immense trees. Pick up the Auto route leaflet when you enter the North entrance for ideas on where to stop off. Watch out for the ranger led nature walks for finding out more information on the trees. There... This is the forest primeval. Bring snacks & pull over to walk and wonder. Take the byroads, & explore. IF you bring a picnic, there are beautiful spots to rediscover awe in these mighty trees..

There is nothing like experiencing the ancient redwoods in the Avenue of the Giants. As you enter the Avenue of the Giants from off the 101, it looks like you are driving into a dark tunnel surrounded by trees, but once inside, your eyes adjust and what you will see is absolutely fantastic! Take the time to stop, walk around,... More

This was our first time down the northern California coast. We drove the avenue of the giants from North to South. With three kids in tow and a long days drive ahead I would cut it a little shorter and not drive the entire road. Stop on the side of the road at a few of the many gravel shoulders... More

I have always wanted to see theses trees and I feel so blessed that I was able to enjoy them on this epic road trip. The smell of the forest, the feel of the bark, the towering heights! No comparison . . . Item officially checked off of my bucket list. :)
