We took the exit to visit this scenic drive. Well worth the extra time to visit. Driving through huge old redwoods that are right next to the road is awesome. Plenty of pull offs to stop and take pictures. I would say this is a 'must see'!

We hopped off Freeway 101 when we saw signs for old highway 101, the scenic route. It was definitely worth it and paralleled with the main road, so you aren't even going out of your way. There is a brochure at the beginning of the route, but we didn't think the points of interest were very clearly marked. We did... More

Absolutely beautiful drive !! The huge redwoods are right at the road edge. Watch out ! Many places to pullover. Many spots to stop and take short hikes into pristine groves. Be sure to pickup a brochure that will guide you to the best spots. Highway 101 intersects at several locations but I would advise driving the entire distance if... More

In Humboldt Redwood Statepark you will find The Avenue of the Giants. It is part of the old 101. Access from USA 101 from the North at the town Fortuna and from the South from Garberville. It is marvellous to drive in the middle of these enormous trees. Take a stop and walk among them.

Take your time and take this drive- one of the most beautiful we have experienced. Stop along the way and hike (easy walks) some of the paths and enjoy what nature has to offer. The ancient, giant redwood trees will leave you in awe.

Everything they say about these magnificent redwoods is true. They are majestic and a slice of history. The auto tour was so-so - but the paths were great and a stop tot he visitor center is a must. We camped in the area and it was a trip out of time. The cell service in the area is Verizon -... More

This drive was worth taking the time to get off the highway! We drove straight through on the way up and drove through again in the way down with some stopes. So beautiful! The size of these trees is amazing. Great place to stop and do a little hiking, have some lunch and just enjoy.

This is a spectacular road trip through a forest of amazing redwood trees. This state park compliments the National Park further north. Both should be visited.

Awe-inspiring. Humbling. And an opportunity for my partner to tell me about his childhood road trips.
