My wife and I wanted to visit LA and SFO but did not want the 6 - 7 hour drive between them nor the flight which would have been about the same time with transfers. So we thought about a coach and ruled that out because we could not stretch our legs! Train seemed a great option. The Amtrak Coast... More

We loved traveling from LA to Seattle by train along the Pacific Coast and in the mountains. The only problem we had was the stench of sewage which was blown out of the air vents into our roomette approximately 3 times every hour. The air blew directly into our faces as we sat in our seats. Ugh! The food was... More

Riding the coast starlight was a dream come true for my honeymoon. We gasped as each view got better and better on the way from Los Angeles north. Service was great and food and drink was good too!

Caught the Coast Starlight from LA to San Francisco and found it a great way to see a bit of the countryside of California due to time restrictions. Found the experience enjoyable and I would not have an issue taking the train again.

Went round trip between Tacoma and Klamath Falls by coach. Most of the staff was excellent - especially in the dinning car. I never bring food on board due to the excellent meals served on the train. The dinning car also has real linens on table with real silverware. There always is a fish, beef, chicken, and vegetarian dish available... More

My 2-year old and I rode on 2/21 from Chemult to Sacramento, on the overnight from 8pm to 6am. The overall experience was not awful, and for a $150 round-trip fare, I guess I cannot expect much. We rode in coach. Train was only about 20 mins. late into Chemult. There was no bathroom at the station, and people smoking... More

Seattle to Los Angeles - the easy way. Board the Amtrak Coast Starlight train at Seattle for a 36 hour train ride from North to South via Washington, Oregan and most of California. We booked a roomette, a two person compartment which has comfortable seats by day and is converted, by your steward, into bunks for sleeping. And within the... More

Our Family took the Coast Starlight between Seattle and San Francisco and had a wonderful time. We booked the family sleeper and enjoyed the time together. We spent most of the time in the Parlor Car and had a wonderful barman to take care of us. The kids went to the theatre and watched a movie and my husband enjoyed... More

Getting on in San Jose gave us just time to get to the last dinner seating, included with our roomette. Some of the dinner entrees were sold out by then, but it was also almost 9 pm, so it was good that we had food. Our roomette was already made up for the night, so we were able to head... More

Thoroughly enjoy this train. Have taken from Sacto to SLO and back several times and it's been good each time. I usually sit in the observation car for the whole trip and like that better than the assigned seating. Staff always nice at the stations and on the train. This is my train of choice when visiting SLO!
