We traveled the entire journey in 2011 (LA - Seattle and back) during the summer months and are now planning our winter trip in Jan 2015. I had to select one, but this is a great vacation for couples (we are) they have family accommodations and this upcoming trip will be with several friends. It is a first class experience.... More

Took the train from LA to Seattle and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Booked a sleeper cabin which was great for 2 people. Fantastic views of the varying scenery through coastline, beaches, headlands and forests. Food was good even if the arrangements for seating in the dining car were a bit authoritarian. Bunks OK to sleep and definitely better than the... More

Traveled with my daughter and her twin 18 month olds on the Coast Starlight from Klamath Falls to Tacoma. We did a day trip in a sleeper. If traveling in coach, we knew other parents that paid for a half price ticket so they could use a car seat in adjacent seat for infant. Use a bungee cord to secure... More

Having read mixed reviews, I was a little nervous about this trip but had no need to be. We took the Coast Starlight from Union Station LA to Oakland for San Francisco, travelling coach, as we wanted some of the coastal views without having to do the drive. Union Station itself is a beautiful building, inside and out, so if... More

A really good time. The service was all over the place, some crew members were super helpful, but a couple of instances were surprisingly bad. The food was surprisingly decent, especially the steak. The roomette was tiny, but not claustrophobic, and it was quite private. The views were spectacular and the observation car was fun too. I'd definitely do it... More

I took the Coast Starlight from Sacramento to Los Angeles. I wanted to ride the train instead of driving, plus it was half the cost of a plane ticket. The train was very comfortable, and the attendent was kind enough (Or maybe this was required) to put everyone at window seats instead of next to someone else. I only mention... More

I just took the Coast Starlight down the coast from Portland to LA. I read all the reviews about the scenery and how nice it was so was a little disappointed. Don't know what's along the train from Seattle to Portland, but got to see it from Portland to LA. Not far out of Portland you're in the mountains and... More

When its good, its very very good.....when its bad, its awful. Nice trip down from Oregon to LA....but on the way back, huge engine fire, passengers with smoke inhalation, headaches, and throwing up, but no medical care. Coast Starlight #14 Train (on one trip alone) had (1) engine fire (2) then someone almost getting hit by train, (3) then another... More

Clean, Quiet & Relaxing - An awesome way to travel! We were traveling from Seattle to Eugene and we decided we didn't want to drive. The drive takes about 5 hours and the train takes around 7. So we took the train. We got seats in the upper level of coach. Everything was very clean and the seats were insanely... More
