We took the train from Santa Barbara to Emeryville over the holiday in December 2014 to experience the ride along the California Coastline. We had reserved two roomette on the upper level of the rail car for our party of 3. Boarding the train at Santa Barbara was easy and offered the option of checking luggage or taking carry on... Thanks for flying with us This was a remark we heard from several attendants as we boarded the Amtrak Coast Starlight train from Los Angeles to Seattle. It is a 36 hour trip on the train, certainly longer than any self respecting airline takes except maybe when winter storms bog down the entire aviation industry, but the train has other... More

Ok before I get started, I would of given this review 5 stars but this train was delayed and delayed by 9 hours! I forgive the whole situation now in hindsight because I will tell you something, the views I witnessed travelling through California, Oregon & Washington were simply stunning. I had my own room which was cosy and comfortable.... More

When I originally booked this trip I thought that when its titled "Coast" I would see mostly the coast which was not the case. I booked this trip from Seattle to Los Angeles as a way to see the entire west coast (was driving from LA to San Diego) but ended up missing the whole coast from Seattle to about... More

This was not our first trip on the Coast Starlight but will definitely be our last. Departing on Christmas Eve, our room (with bath) was not up to standards. Not only did the pillows have hair and wrinkles on them (they were on the seat when we arrived), but the trash container in our room was already full. Hmmmm.... The... More

The best train in the USA. We had a bedroom with bath. I used the downstairs facilities as they are roomier. My wife used the in-bedroom bath and was pleased. Food was good. The Parlour Car is why we booked Amtrak and the bedroom. Take the Coast Starlight at least once

As an add-on to our Alaskan cruise we took the Coast Starlight train from Seattle to Los Angeles before flying home. What a wonderful experience! We had a roomette which gave us our own private little cabin with picture window, reclining seats and when night approached the seating was converted to bunks. The deal also included all meals and although... More

Like many travellers, we dread the necessity of flights nowadays, and the opportunity to travel by train seemed irresistible. A touch of 50 s style offered itself in taking the Amtrak train from San Francisco to San Diego , via Los Angeles . We booked a room , with private facilities, as the comfort level offered seemed good, meals were included... More

My boyfriend and I took the 18-hour trip one-way from San Francisco to Portland. We were heading to Portland for Thanksgiving anyway, and wanted to try something different, so we booked a roomette. Overall, we both enjoyed it as a fun one-off, but were expecting more from the experience. I'd recommend it if you're heading somewhere anyway and don't want... More

We boarded the Coast Starlight at Portland - having booked a roomette we were entitled to use the Lounge which provided free tea, coffee, soft drinks, water etc. No wifi available but we were told that it would be available from Parlour Car on train! It wasn't! Apparently it failed some time ago and as yet has not been fixed!... More
