Maybe 2 or 3 hours of Coastline views on the over 30 hours of travel from LA to Seattle. That said, the views of inland California were varied and interesting. If you wake up before 6am on day two of the northbound journey, you get great views of Mt. Shasta. (Our car attendant, Cruz, had the coffee ready in time... More

We did this journey from Seattle to San francisco and it wAs an amazing experience! We checked our suitcases, so only had small bags to take on. We had two roomed tes opposite each other and our journey started off with us being given little amenity kits and bottles of cava to toast the journey! The roomettes are snug, however... More

So, first I want to say that of course it would have been a lot less expensive and a lot quicker(an hour and a half vs. 22 hours) to fly down to San Francisco from Seattle but we wanted a new experience for our family with 4 young kids. We got a family sleeper car and an additional roomette in... More

Would have given this 5 stars - if I'd actually seen the Californian coastline. Travelled from Seattle down to LA and woke up to find we had been delayed 3 hours during the night which meant that by the time we hit the stretch of the journey I'd booked the trip for, it was dark and couldn't see a thing.... Coastal California trip Oceanside to LA on Amtrak. LA to San Jose Coast Starlight. Delightful to take Coast starlight from LA to San Jose. We took only carry-on luggage and walked from Amtrak station to The Arena Hotel- 3 blocks. Walked to Chipotle for late dinner. On the Starlight it was nice to sit in parlor car with table and... We took the train from Santa Barbara to Emeryville over the holiday in December 2014 to experience the ride along the California Coastline. We had reserved two roomette on the upper level of the rail car for our party of 3. Boarding the train at Santa Barbara was easy and offered the option of checking luggage or taking carry on... Thanks for flying with us This was a remark we heard from several attendants as we boarded the Amtrak Coast Starlight train from Los Angeles to Seattle. It is a 36 hour trip on the train, certainly longer than any self respecting airline takes except maybe when winter storms bog down the entire aviation industry, but the train has other... More

Ok before I get started, I would of given this review 5 stars but this train was delayed and delayed by 9 hours! I forgive the whole situation now in hindsight because I will tell you something, the views I witnessed travelling through California, Oregon & Washington were simply stunning. I had my own room which was cosy and comfortable.... More

When I originally booked this trip I thought that when its titled "Coast" I would see mostly the coast which was not the case. I booked this trip from Seattle to Los Angeles as a way to see the entire west coast (was driving from LA to San Diego) but ended up missing the whole coast from Seattle to about... More
