Waiting at the magnificent Union Station in Los Angeles on a sunny day, buy good snack food and coffee , and sit in the station gardens, people watching. This is a day trip, so we are in coach, but the seats are at least as comfortable as first class on American airlines on which I travelled from Manchester UK. Spotless... More

I took the Coast Starlight from Emeryville to Los Angeles - because of my travel plans, the train was remarkably close to door-to-door convenience. This is the day leg of the full Coast Starlight route, and it offered a chance to see parts of California that you can't get to by car. Food was surprisingly good, although like many Trip... More

We took the Coast Starlight from Seattle to LA, after recommendations from friends. Staff, including Greg, Monica and Roger all worked hard to keep us comfortable and well fed in our sleeping/seat compartment and in the Parlour Car. At night, husband (6' 6") fit fine in the lower bunk and we both slept well. Thought we might get bored, but... More

We signed up for the trip from Seattle to San Francisco which was an overnight trip from 9:30 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. the next morning. Also reserved the sleeper car with the bathroom, which I would recommend for an overnight trip. It was quite a bit more expensive but I didn't want to share a bathroom with the train car.... More

This was our first train ride from San Diego to Seattle. We boarded the Coast Starlight in LAX. The rooms and Parlor Car are really a blast from the past. Very historical Very quaint but I was surprised at how small the room was. We got the sleeper with the private bath. REALLY small but again we were on the... More

I travelled on this train as part of a grand tour of the west coast of America. I expected a great deal more than I received. Whilst the staff are pleasant they appeared to be a little short with some passengers. We were allocated a dining time in the dining car only to find that no food was available, with... More

We travelled the whole line from Seattle to LA. Our sleeper bedroom was comfortable if not spacious .We chose not to use the shower as sitting on the loo to shower did not appeal .Being Australian tourists it was great to be able to meet locals and others over a drink in the Parlor Car and the Diner served the... We traveled the entire journey in 2011 (LA - Seattle and back) during the summer months and are now planning our winter trip in Jan 2015. I had to select one, but this is a great vacation for couples (we are) they have family accommodations and this upcoming trip will be with several friends. It is a first class experience.... More

Took the train from LA to Seattle and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Booked a sleeper cabin which was great for 2 people. Fantastic views of the varying scenery through coastline, beaches, headlands and forests. Food was good even if the arrangements for seating in the dining car were a bit authoritarian. Bunks OK to sleep and definitely better than the... More

Traveled with my daughter and her twin 18 month olds on the Coast Starlight from Klamath Falls to Tacoma. We did a day trip in a sleeper. If traveling in coach, we knew other parents that paid for a half price ticket so they could use a car seat in adjacent seat for infant. Use a bungee cord to secure... More
