Breathtaking and a little scary. Those turns made my stomach quizzy, but the scenery was spectacular. Our VIA driver, Reuben, was excellent. Made a point to stop frequently and point out interesting scenery. We enjoyed watching the sea lions sunning themselves on the rocks..

I took highway 1 from San Francisco to LA (aka a really long way). This drive was remarkably beautiful. I had expectations but was blown away. One of the most beautiful things I've seen in the world. Bridges, winding roads, and amazing views. There Are plenty of places to pull over and take pictures and go for a hike. Also... More

This was the absolute best part of our two-week, ten-year anniversary trip to CA. Being from the East Coast, you just don’t see anything like this. The Pacific Coast is pure splendor and just speechlessly surreal. It’s everything you’ve seen, heard, and more, and then still some more. We stopped at every viewpoint, because we just couldn’t pass one up.... More

The views are beyond words! The clear skies, mild breezes, seagulls and other sea life are fascinating. The charming and wide array of places to stop make this windy and slow trip always feel like an adventure.

We travelled from Carmel to Morro Bay. It is only approx 140 miles but it took hours to drive because of all the stops to take pictures. The scenery is very spectacular and the weather today foggy intervals added to the atmosphere. The Pacific Ocean was so blue at places. A highlight was the Elephant seals where thousands of them... Driving along this road is so beautiful. It is the California everyone dreams about, particularly when you pass the beaches and ocean. Don't be in a hurry because not only will you miss the views but it is impossible to go fast because there are a ton of stop signs when you go through the little towns.

We decided to cut over from Sonoma and take Highway 1 from Point Reyes down to San Francisco.First, the views and the sights are amazing.Give yourself the day because you will be making a bunch of stops. But parts of this drive are not for the faint of heart. I have driven some intense drives-Yosemite,Estes Park,Utah, etc but they aren't very long. This drive... More

I drove the PCH from LA to San Fran in March...forget "breathtaking": this scenery is heart-stopping! Rocks, foggy valleys and crazy little houses on one side, sheer drops to the ocean on the other. Absolutely a must-do!

We drive the PCH from Carmel to Cambria and it is one of the most beautiful drives ever. We were sure we would be stopping every now and again to take photos, but we were seriously stopping just about every 200 yards or so, because every curve and every turn revealed a more breathtaking view than before. We can't wait... More

You are tossed in beauty when you drive this route, an almost endless pleasure. It outshines San Simeon.
