The most beautiful drive ever. Hands down. And whatever time it says for google maps to get there, add on a few hours, you'll want to stop and take in the sights. It gets really awesome the closer to San Francisco you get - you'll go through wine country and then all of a sudden you'll be on these cliffs... More

Stunning scenery as you drive down the 1. Traffic was heavy as you would expect but take advantage of the many turnouts to slow down and enjoy the beauty. We traveled from SF to. Santa Maria and enjoyed all of it. My wife got tired of the twisty switch back and hair pin turns, but I did not. Understand that... More

We drove from San Fransisco to Santa Barbara. Freeway 101 is the quick way and can be done in 4.5hrs, but the PCH (Route 1) is stunning and well worth the added time. It took us 9 hours including rush hour San Fran traffic, lunch and many photo stops. The views are breathtaking and driving north to south is by... More

America has lots of scenic roadways. Some wind through mountains and offer spectacular views of the rugged terrain. Others are close to a large lake or other coastline and afford the passengers open views of water and aquatic wildlife. There is one that combines both of these qualities into one, and it’s a drive everyone should take at least once:... More

We drove from Hollywood through Malibu and back along the Pacific Coast Highway in a rented convertible. Definitely a great way to do it! The views of the ocean, hills, cliffs and buildings nestled in are stunning. The only down side is that there are not a lot of areas to pull over. I can see why restaurants like Paradise... More

The coastal views are simply magical nad there's endless miles of it! There's countless vista points and impromptu turnouts that you could take pics at, you'll be numb of the views by the end of the day. I started the trip from Half Moon Bay, then travel south to Santa Cruz, Monterey (overnight), Big Sur, San Simeon, Cambria and finally... More

We went to drive the Big Sur! The best advice I was given was to drive it North to South, the driver has to watch the road so the passenger (me!!!) was on the right getting uninterrupted views of the Pacific ocean. Consequently our trip consisted of flying into San Francisco and driving down to San Diego with 8 stops... More

We drove from Santa Monica to San Francisco, stopping at San Simeon and Hearst Castle. We did it over two days. The scenery after you leave San Simeon going north is absolutely stunning and it must be some of the most beautiful coastline in the world. The journey takes ages because there are just so many vistas stops along the... More

What ever your GPS says for time... Double it! The drive is beautiful... Very. My suggestion is your drive the highway from North to South. Closer to the edge and the amazing views. Many stops are required for pictures. Enjoy the drive... Slowly!

You can't do this drive in a rush, not just because you'll want to stop every five minutes to take in the outstanding views, but also because it's curvy, bendy and hard to maintain higher speeds. A lot of parts are restricted to 20 mph. We did the drive from San Francisco to LA non-stop, anticipating it would take five... More
