This route was absolutely stunning, with mountains straight into the sea, picturesque sea stacks, beautiful blue water, lots of sun, and hikes through redwoods. It was so calming to be in such a beautiful place. I can't wait to come back!

You must plan a trip here. My family and I drove 2000 miles to see such beauty! Plan to return in the near future. Winding mountain roads hanging from cliffs that run along the ocean for 5+hours.

What can I say...it is a must do/se/experience sort of thing. Good place to get on Hwy on eis San Luis Obispo, best to take a break from it in Monterey. I have driven it many times, in all sorts of different weather conditions, and it was always fabulous. Be prepared, some drivers are not experienced with the many curves... More

The United States' premier scenic roadway goes by many names: The Pacific Coast Highway (in southern California), Highway One (in Northern California), Shoreline Highway (in Marin County), and also referred to as the Coast Highway. A wonderful bicycle trip is Sausalito to San Diego (always bicycle north to south so that the wind will be mostly at your back). Driving... More

Killer views, amazing bridges, Big Sur is just beautiful, the mountains, the redwoods, awesome drive itself. Not for the beginner driver as there are no guardrails in some corners with 100ft drops into the pacific...lol. Great winding corners for the advanced driver to have fun with. I would not recommend driving the PCH at night....unless you have to I guess.... More

While you could take shorter routes, if you have even just a little extra time, wouldn't you want to weave just a little bit more adventurously? Your passengers will love the views (as long as they aren't deathly afraid of a view high vistas), and even the driver gets an occasional safe glimpse of gorgeous Pacific waves. Sunset is a... More

Do ask locals about the time the fog rolls in! We had made the mistake and had started real early. For Most of our drive, we could not see the beaches, due to heavy fog, rolling in from the sea. What we could see was breath taking! In India, beaches are not kept clean and hence the clean beaches of... More

From 1970 until now when I go anywhere up North, I go up PCH...it is beautiful, breathtaking in places and gives you a taste of what California is all about. The inland route is faster, of course, but why hurry? Take the time to enjoy California and pick this as your route.

One of the best drives in the USA...especially the Northern to Central California Coast. The coastal views of the blue Pacific are beyond compare, with numerous beaches and state parks to explore. Fantastic offshore rock formations including arches make for splendid photographic subjects. Lots of great places to stay along the way from cozy B&B's to large hotels. Best views... More
