Whether you are a catch and release fisher or a catch and eat fisher the docks are a great place to get your trout fishing time in. Get there early as some of the locals get to thinking the docks are theirs alone. Stop at the Mountain Hardware store the day before to get the bait you will need and... More

Great sunrise for Christmas 2014. Very cold but no snow. Chilled inside a cabin near the lake and played games. Relaxing

What a gem of a lake. Not crowded like Tahoe. Great to visit During any season. Just hanging out on the docks on a hot Summer day is all I need.

A great place to sail, fish, sun bathe, and just sightsee the mountain views. It's also a great place for a run. You can run the entire way around the lake, 7.5 miles, with not much elevation gain or loss. It's a great place to spend the day while in Truckee.

The lake is gorgeous, while we were there, there was a fire going east of Sacramento and the smoke was terrible. It was quiet and peaceful...serene. We did go back when the smoke cleared and stayed for a while. It was September, so not a lot of people around.

So quiet and beautiful, a great hidden Gem. We always stop in here and watch the duck and stretch our legs.

This is really a nice lake right off the I-80 and is far less crowded than Tahoe. On the east end there is the Donner Memorial State Park and Emigrant Trail Museum and camping sites. The museum is free, but parking is $8. The parking fee, though, does gain you entry to the lake from that end and there are... More

There's something like 38 docks on the north shore of Donner Lake & every one of them is public access. The lake is tree-lined and very beautiful with a nice bike path running along side it. The East end of the lake has a State Park that is reasonable to get in, has a beach, and you can rent water... More

The beach at the west end of Donner Lake is a very fine alternative to the crowds on Lake Tahoe. The beach is state run and is clean with plenty of park benches, rest rooms, snack bar, and rentals for paddle boats, kayaks etc. A wonderful facility with a nice beach
