Lyman's State Park is about a 4.5 hour drive from Phoenix. I picked it because it was cooler than Phoenix and had an opening. 2 nights, 1 car permit, 1 dog = $125.00. The cabin had 1 double and a set of bunk beds, 1 table with 4 chairs and a set of shelves. Outside there is a fire pit,... More

Well maintained and clean state park near St John and Springerville. The park is pretty much out in the open with few trees. The stars were spectacular when they were out. We stayed several nights in the cabins which were clean and cozy. The web site shows a yurt but if they are there we didn’t see them. There are... More

We spent the day with family boating and enjoying each other's company. The kids, when not on the boat, loved playing in the water. The cool water helped ease the hot sun. We brought our own canopies for shade, otherwise it may have intolerable.

I have stayed at State and National parks all over the country and was looking forward to Lyman Lake. Even though its lies at altitude, it is a fairly desolate park, with very few trees and therefore minimal shade. The lake is nice; made for boating and the petroglyphs are great. Fishing was so-so and the hiking trails need work.... More

While looking at some property for sale near St. Johns we stumbled across Lyman Lake State Park, a park we had never heard of before. We camped for the night in mid May. We didn't make a reservation but there were just a handful of people in the park so it didn't matter. The store was closed when we arrived... More

On our third night of our 3-week motorcycle adventure we stayed in campsite 14 at Lyman Lake. Very very clean state park. We had made the reservation on-line ahead of time so there was a small orange cone at the entrance to the campsite marking it as reserved. The facilities were very nice. Only 1 comment. The showers were closed... More

We took our dogs and made the loop around the lake. It is so scenic and peaceful. It is always a little different every time we go.

We had plenty to do. Weather was lovely. Rangers were super nice. It really was a fantastic (& inexpensive) trip. We rented one of the cabins, saw the petroglyphs and Ancient Pueblo Ruins at Rattlesnake Point. Loved having well water on site at cabin. Our six year old explored a ton and caught a number of bugs and the cutest... More

As others have noted, the petroglyphs are astounding. This almost hidden gem of the AZ State Park system is northeast of Show Low in the White Mountains, about halfway between St. John's to the north and Springerville-Eager to the south. Water sports and fishing are the apparent draw here, but I went to just get away and explore, partly because... More
