I have done a few hikes around here and if the weather is with you then this place is great. Well worth putting your boots on and exploring the trails - you don't have to do anything mad - just pick a simple one and get moving. There are some cracking views and even if it's busy you will find... More

Great tour, saw lots of Dolpins it was well worth doing.Staff were very good. Went to loads of small inlets. Also stopped & got off at one of the islands for about an hour where you could buy lunch & walk around also had some great views a very steep walk. Nothing to dislike went for a whole day.

Its hard for anyone arriving on the Wellington/Picton ferry to not daydream about having a home somewhere on one of the shores of the Sound as you arrive in Picton. Thankfully, I had a local B&B stay that had superb views of not just the charming town of Picton, but also of the Sound and its harbor. It was made... More

I was lucky to have stepped off the ship to warm weather in Picton. A small little town in the hills with about the same amount of people living there as on the ship. A lovely little picnic area with ducks and kids and a playground all on the waterfront. I went to a small markets type set up selling... More

A truly magnificent Picturesque place to stay or visit when you embark on the top of the South Island. Breath taking Native Flora and Fauna on a rugged hilly backdrop, surround a vast blue/green sea. Ongoing movement of InterIslander and BlueBridge Ferries, Logging ships, Cruise Liners and a multitude of smaller pleasure vessels, give a serene experience that can consume... More

we were so surprised that Picton isn't given more respect inn the guide books. Restaurants are good, scenery is lovely, hiking is great, boating options great, why isn't it given more respect. Piction is certainly more than just the kick off point from the ferry. So stay awhile.

We took the mail boat as it journeyed round to all the little communities on Picton Sound. The captain gave a knowledgeable and humorous commentary as we sailed round. This was a great way to see life here as it is for local people and see all the wonderful sights.

And I'm a Kiwi, so that's high praise! I just couldn't get over the jagged native forest covered mountains all about dropping sheerly into the water. Gob-smackingly gorgeous! Never seen a town with such a spectacular backdrop. I'd last seen it as a child in the 60s. I remembered it as just a sleepy village, where the ferry got in.... More

We stopped only briefly at Picton Sound on our way from Blenheim to Nelson via the Queen Charlotte Track, but were immediately impressed by the fantastic pirate ship playground in the park. The kids love it and we enjoyed the views from the park benches. A great place to stop and stretch your legs and get some fresh air if... More
