We had a little walk through the main street and then on the beach. Picton has a lovely view of the water but I am not sure how much you can actually do there. We have some distant relatives living there and their teenage children were complaining of lack of "to do" in town...one can only imagine.

We walked along the harbor and on the trails - I wish we had allowed more time. We walked to Bob's Bay and back, but it was getting dark. I would have liked to go all the way out to the end of the peninsula. You could see horseshoe tracks on the trail - people must ride horses on the... More

Picton is such a lovely place and much more than just the ferry terminal. It boasts a good range of shops, bars and restaurants. The harbour and marina are lovely places to go for a walk. Overlooking the marina there's a 'retirement' village made up of round bungalows set into the hillside; it could almost be hobbiton! There are many... More

Picton is much more than just the gateway to the South Island. Yes it is a popular port for cruise ships and the interisland ferries, but it's also the departure port for yachting in the Marlborough Sounds, and is a centre for many water sports including kayaking. You can access the Queen Charlotte Walkway, visit Motuara Island, which is predator... More

We have passed through Picton numerous times but this is the first time we have climbed via the Tirohanga Walkway to the viewpoint above town - well worth a visit on a sunny day.

Popular port for cruise ships doing New Zealand and Australia. Nice town with a few shops and a supermarket. Plenty of trips out to wineries at Marlborough and local places by coaches. Some lovely scenery also boat trips. Big timber export business. Ferries to the North Island. I also saw a car hire business. The cruise ships like ports like... More

Picton what a lovely surprise, most people only think of it as a ferry terminal, not so. Picton is a beautiful little town and well worth staying for a few days. The scenery is wonderful and their are lots of boat trips on the sounds. Swim with dolphins, visit a predator free island and see some of New Zealand's native birds,... More

Just beautiful. I wish I had time to explore this lovely harbor area, sit and have a coffee and just admire the view - it is beautiful. Unfortunately we were on a tight time schedule so we just drove through for a quick look on our way to the wineries in the Marlborough region. I will be back to explore... More

Captain Cook was right when he called this area one of the most beautiful in the South Pacific. Picton is the terminus for the inter-island ferry and is well worth a visit. Lovely town, beautiful harbor, interesting attractions like float planes and dolphin cruises. Take a boat out into Queen Charlotte harbor and visit Ship Cove, where Cook spent many... More
