Tucked away on the South Island at the southern terminus of the InterIsland Ferry from Wellington is Picton Sound. A gateway to vacation.

This is a very pretty harbour and in the scenery department it has just about everything a tourist could want. From the harbour foreshore you can see right out into the Sounds and a volcanic looking island. Within the harbour basin itself is a pleasant little swimming beach, a marina and ferry wharves. Cruise boats often berth there as well.... More

We only stayed in Picton for one night, but we decided to have a walk through the Victoria Domain. What a breathtaking scenery! The Sounds are just amazing! If you don't have time to explore the Queen Charlotte Sound, this is where you have to go! The water had an incredible colour and the surrounding hills where just picture-perfect. We... More

Walking around this place is pleasurable, there's nice playgrounds for the kids, mini golf, merry go round, small train ride for the little ones, or just sit there and soak up the sun and beautiful view

Whilst staying at Momorangi Bay I decided to drive to Picton for a look. A lot of people getting on or off the ferry to Wellington seem to pass through Picton without stopping for a look. If you have the time do make a point of looking around, there is something for everyone. I noticed seemingly endless places to eat,... More

Take the time when you get off the ferry to have a look around Picton and its surrounds. It has awesome cafes, interesting shops and a lovely atmosphere. It is interesting with a lot of history. The waterfront is pleasant and invites a stroll or just relaxing nearby. Highly recommended.

In Picton there are several walking tracks across the town, you do not have to walk very far to be in the native bush. They can be for 15 minutes to 2-3+ hours - your call. The information centre gives you a brochure with information and degree of difficulty. One track is straight up the hill to get a beautiful... More

We arrived in Picton only to take the ferry to Wellington. When we drove into {Picton itself it looked like a small sleepy port where the ferries came and went. However, as we came to the town centre, we saw the sound itself and the surrounding hills which were really nice. Then we started to regret not spending more time... More

We stopped at Picton for a day on our cruise and found it to be a charming little place with a heart of gold. The people were very friendly and helpful at the shops and at the open air market in the center of town. The people from the ship who went on wine tours or water sports tours were... More
