There are so many delightful things to see and do in this area. The coastline is massive and beautiful. The Queen Charlotte Drive will give good opportunity to enjoy part of it, but even a drive up to see French Pass and Elaine Bay is highly recommended. Very pretty.

My third visit to the Sounds and probably the best because of the walk along Queen Charlotte Track. 5 days of breathtaking views, some challenging climbs, great accommodations, food and wine.

Marlborough sounds is such a beautiful place to be. Many people arrive here via the Ferry. However for us it is a place to holiday and get out onto on a boat. Definitely worth a longer stay.

As part of our road trip we spent a day taking the scenic route on Queen Charlotte Drive. What breathtaking views along the way! Beautiful native forest, stunning bays and a strong artistic community. I can't wait to go back - but next time spending much more time there!

No matter how you see the sounds you are cruising. But no trip to Nz is complete without visiting this region. The ferry is a great way of experiencing this spectacle. Of course you may have flown to Blenheim or Christchurch but please drive north experience the sounds. The Queen Charlotte track or day cruising. Use this area as a... More

I love Picton it is a quiet sleepy gateway to the South Island - very beautiful. The place where the Ferry leaves from with a lot of good motels. Recommend driving from here around the other sounds.

The Marlborough Sounds are New Zealand's No.1 tourist destination and for good reason. The whole complex is enormous and it is said that the shoreline represents 50% of the entire NZ shoreline thanks to all the little bays nooks and crannies. Based on my limited exposure my impression is that the further into the Sounds one travels the more interesting,... More

If you go to the Marlborough Sounds there is so much to do even if you are not keen on water/water sports. Take the ferry to Wellington for the day and get a spectacular view of the Sounds and its surrounds or grab the mailboat and get into the little bays. We took the kids sea kayaking with Wilderness Guides,... More
