Wilderness island

Boat ride very nice. Toured the island. Food too expensive for a traveler on a budget. Very nice view from the lop of the site.

Lochmara Lodge is more than just a place to stay. There is quite a lot to see and do here, from the wildlife sanctuary to glow worms at night and kayaking - it's all there, as well as a place to just chill out. We stayed here for one night while trekking the Queen Charlotte. Accomodation was comfortable and roomy.... More

We had stayed here before and were keen to see if it had changed. We caught the 9.30 water taxi over and had lunch and a good walk around. It has changed quite a lot, gone more up market

We went on the Discover Lochmara day trip from 12.30 to 5.00, mainly because all the other boat trips in Picton seemed to have 9.00 departure times and we weren't ready then! It was a serendipitous choice. The whole day was perfect, you have so much flexibility there. My husband wanted to sit in the sun, drink beer and watch... More

We went on a day trip to Lochmara. The boat trip was very nice. Lunch was ok. The staff were very good. Not something I would do again, but not sorry I tried it.

This is the perfect day to relax and unwind in a gorgeous, beautiful environment. Great boat trip out to the lodge. Once there it is remote, gorgeous, there are free kayaks and my teenagers kayaked round the whole bay. The water is gorgeous (chilly) and the rope swing is a hit with the kids. The cafe serves great food. Also... More

We took the 12-30pm returning at 5pm option which cost $45 pp. It takes about 20 minutes to get to Lochmara from Picton on the boat. Once there there is plenty to do and explore especially if you have kids. Swimming, rope swings, free kayaks, animal feeding, very cool bird feeding, and a few walks with hammocks and art work... We had three wonderful days at Lockmara Lodge during our trip to NZ and this stay was the highlight. The ride on the water taxi from Picton set the scene with the skipper helping us on and off the boat with our heavy luggage. Paula welcomed us at the jetty and looked after us from there. The restaurant was excellent... More

I had heard of Loachmara and we were on a cruise that stopped in Picton. I stopped in at the info desk in Picton and asked how to get there. The person said "ah, that is a hidden gem! You will love it". We went to the pier at her suggestion and paid $45.(AUS)/person at the tours desk. That got... More
