We stayed here for one night as part of our Queen Charlotte Track walk. We were met by their water taxi and transferred to the lodge. The skipper was on his mobile phone as we boarded the boat, there were no other passengers. We had experienced such great hospitality throughout NZ and thought it a bit strange that he chose... Coffee, wine or a meal it's the best location in the sounds. The food is nice - not amazing, but the setting makes up for it. Friendly welcoming staff nothing a problem.

Took the water taxi over to Lochmara Lodge for a day of adventures. Plenty of activities and great café/restaurant. Staff were all so friendly and welcoming. Recommend this place as a day trip to anyone.

I only spend a few hours at Lochmara, exploring the surroundings incl. wildlife. There are many spots with comfortable hammocks inviting you to hang out and take a break. Even a spot for star gazing at its best! :) Kayaking and other activities are possible too, just go there either to stay at the Lodge or to take a break... More

Lochmara Lodge was an ideal place to have a rest day after a hard day's walk. The food was fabulous and wait staff friendly. The animals were amazing and the glowworms and kakarikis are a must see. The flying fox was super and kayaking was superb - the seals were awesome! Don't forget to do the rope swing. Lochmara is... More

Lochmara Lodge is a jewel in the crown of the Marlborough Sounds. Whether you are into Conservation, Art & Crafts, Food or Day walks this is the place to visit. The work of the team to ensure that the native Kakariki survive is to be commended. As you walk around the property you see art works along the tracks, they... More

We have visited in January. The room is very good even though expensive. The food is not bad. What this place does not have is an atmosphere of being one with nature and the reason for this is simple. It is used a day trip for many many people. So during the day you have dozens of day trippers come... More

Had a delightful nights stay at this great lodge. The grounds are really interesting with animals and art sculptures all over the property. Dinner was yummy and had a good nights sleep in the comfortable accommodation. Got up early and used the free kayak's as the sun came up on the mirror calm water which was wonderful. Had a nice... A good short boat trip takes you to this delightful place where we spent a day strolling round the paths, trying out the hammocks and enjoying the wildlife, both free and captive. The cafe provided good coffee and muffins in the morning and a tasty lunch too. Calm and restful.

Two of us took an evening trip including main course dinner in early December. We loved the walk round the sculpture garden with zany, witty pieces- we must have missed a few as they kept appearing in the trees. Dinner was excellent- I had smoked poussin which was delicious. It was quiet so our boat driver was happy to take... More

Thanks for the review - we've passed your comments on to the Chef to, the smoked poussin is a real favourite. Yes - you can walk around a dozen times, and still spot things you've never seen before, that's the magic of discovery :). Later in the season (after daylight saving) there are glow worms to spot too, which you... More
